So changed my float now bike won't start properlytakes ages to start wen it does it splutters backfires dosnt get above 3 thousand revs sounds like its starved of fuel leaned the holes I can see taken it out and put it back in bout 5 times now what do I need to do what have I ****ed up doing the floats I'm gona leave it now till I get sum advice from u guys thanks
so you have changed the floats only ? are they sett right did you streighten or bend hey little brass flap the the needle valve hooks on to ? blow down where the fuel pipe go's at the same time lifting the float up and down do's it open and shut right ...look at your old float check if the litle brass oblong shaped flap is bent up or down a little even 1 mm either way ? did you turn anything or change anything else settings wise ?
that carb still looks dirty for a open carb have you cleaned it ? if so thats not a very good jobe it should look like new ... you may have caused more blockages as there is still dirt and fuel residue in there that you have desturbed and is now blocking one of those tiny holes ..
put your mouth over each and every hole and blow ..if you can not blow its blocked as no matter where you blow air should escape out of another hole somewhere ?
butcher a old clutch cable or even better a bmx/mount bike break cable for one of the strands of wire and try running it throu some of the jets or holes....
I also with realy dirty or old carbs remove eveything plastic or rubber and any seals from the bottom chamber of carb and place it over the flame on the cooker old hardend fuel ect bubble out like varnish ....
if I was you I would strip everything back to basic clean each and every part even the brass parts and all holes as above then reasemble all to standard spec and sett the floats right sure there is a how to on here some where
+1 ,sonic that sheeeet,Eze yer bike will be loads clearer running ,undo Evthing before you chuck it in and just keep doin it over an over mine took bout 10 goes haha that's one go for every year it sat there with fuel in it set evthing back up after tho man, especially the float height, main jets are about £2 ,pilot about £6, and the seal for the bottom is bout £6, just in case you need um ,and check you don't have any leaks in the floats ,you just got float valve so all good there ,hope this helps dude

Get that carb in that ultra sonic cleaner you bought Eze, especially the float bowl, all that crap in the bottom gotta go somewhere, and some looks like its already flaked off,
kinda stuck on suggestions dude with out seeing the bike ...could say to norrow it down to 100% carb would be to try a known working carb of a mates bike ..
so when you refit the carb is it all working fine ... any overflowing ? is the res filling ok ? once carb is on and after trying to start is the plug wet is it trying to fire at all ?
with the carb in place have you tried the bit of fuel down plug hole ..do's it start that way ?
have you adjusted any screws or anything during your carb tinkering or changes ... is there a good spark at plug ?
sold a dtr last year and for the life of me it would not start via kick start I checked everything 100 times over and then on the day of sale as a none starter the kid turned up with a new battery ??? put it on and it kicked first time ...I was shocked as I iknow they start with out a battery fine .. but for some reason the battery either gave a good earth -completed a circuit or gave a extra boost to spark plug ...
Cleaned everything still not working what the **** av I done to this bike won't even splutter now please give me more advice please
also how did you clean carb with the sonic thingy ??? I know ppl swear by them and yes they do a great job on open parts and outside ....but you imagine how small some of those holes are like pin sized holes .... now imagine pushing a little bit of solid dirt or grim down one of those holes that at some point bend 90 deg ect. not cleaning fluid or sonic is going to get in there to move it ....thats why I put compressed air down every hole on the carb along with the fine wire strand and last resort heat to melt or help remove whats down there ....
no matter what if you blow down any of those holes via use a straw or pipe/hose the air should come out of another hole feel for it with your hand or cheek
+1 i've found more than once, that the little tubes in the bowl get blocked up i usually take the blow torch to it,to get the varnish like stuff out (be careful though, too much heat weakens aluminium) compressed air is spot on for clearing pipes too
Can u ****in believe in the last 3-4 days Iv had this bike striped from top to bottom to bottom to top and I couldn't get nothing and today I go get new spark plug just to make sure and wat do u no she runs perfect with it so after all that it was just a new spark plug needed guess it's good the carb got a good clean but fukin hell I could of been out all weekend
