So after trawling the Internet for a 3MB00 head, I put my engine out and notice that my cylinder is already the one I want. That'll teach me for not looking properly.
As some of you know it was stolen last weekend sometime as so I've pulled it all apart to do some maintenance before getting it back on the road.
After taking the top end off, I notice the engine has black what looks like oil surrounding the piston etc.. Weird as the only pil going into the engine is 2 stroke. It was all over the powervalve, cylinder dome, spark plug etc.
Pictures;
did u get the studs out and check the bits for warpage, that head gaskets been on its way out for a while by look of it mate,the combustion pressure/heat seeps thru and cooks the gasket and makes it brittle then it breaks down after time, but it looks like the area where the leaks been may of had loosened head nuts, its good practice to check the head nuts now and again re torque em, thats another way u get warpage as 1 sides tighter than the other then over time the heat and cooling of the components helps to alter the structure of the material that barrels well worn any way well due a rebore pal u may aswell get them to deck the top of the barrel aswell take a thou or 2 off it that will clean it up real well
the inturnals of the top end will be covered in oil mate as it comes in with the fuel, to lubricate, top of the piston and head should be nice coca brown/ashy colour, the head looks well black but it waint of been running r8 for a while looking at that
the gasket is the second one since my original rebuild. I faced up the top end crudely before and it ran fine for 100 miles or so.. Ive given it all a clean etc but did notice what looks like some damage to the head..
has your dog been chewing that??? think i'd rebore the barrel and bin the head to be fair,i'd be tempted to rebuild the whole engine. you dont know what abuse it suffered while it was "away". defo wouldn't have had it easy
I doubt they rode it at all tbh, it had no water in it and the head gasket had gone and water was swilling around in the exhaust. I couldnt get it to start for the life of me (before knowing what was wrong) so, could be they walked around with it for ages to find somewhere to stash/ride it
Yeah, bin that head unfortunately. Looks ragged. Going to need a rebore. If that were me i'd rebore then plate in back up. Save having to mod out the YPVS. I'd also skim the cylinder and the new head if you get it.
Don't be too disheartened. These sorts of things are just maintenance for two strokes.
oh my days am i laughing now i got this image in my head of these gormless chav gonks pushing your bike over vale and hill,trying to get it started.... also wondering now if a builder stopped to give them a lift,hence the sand? the distance it travelled to where it was found dont add up do they? its random how it ended up at that pub still.... +1 on the skimming too

The sand on the bike leads me to believe their either driveway pikeys, landscape pikeys or they took it somewhere that was sandy and the 13 yr old little **** was too short to stand up on it and fell over, in doing so stamped himself in the shin with the footpeg.. I hope.
Yeah, it's on it's original bore, so never been skimmed or bored. Gonna take it to a local shop and see what they make of it, be a shame to waste it as I was looking for a 3MB00 for a while :(
I have a decent cylinder head if you want it the same as the one you had on your bike taken from my last topend rebuild a week ago comes with thermostat make me an offer.
3MB barrels arnt hugely hard to come by. Its the 3MB heads that dont come around a huge amount and are the ones that offer better compression. I have quite a fe 3mb00 barrels. I think the different between the 3mb and 3bn barrels was the bore size as there were 56.4mm standards as well as 56.00 mm standard barrels.
