Tough decision. Opinions?

Aight so might be getting another DT as a project bike, basically about 2k miles on the clock. All original condition. All i know is one of the engine covers (either PV or oil pump) has a hole in it and the front plastics/headlight/clocks are mangled. Apart from this the bike is in abso****ing MINT condition, even has the toast rack.

Basically i had my eye on this bike when i was looking for a DT but the bike shop was waiting a month before i got my current bike (now the red devil) and it's been sitting there untouched since then, just over a year now. Got the news today they're thinking of selling it, tried telling me it's a 2010 model which i flat out denied as it's a pre RE lol. I know more about it than them obviously.

Anyway my question is this. They mentioned they might want about £900 for this thing but i can easily get some knocked off that considering the damage (and it's unknown if it runs at the moment the guy in the shop didn't know), if/when i get this dt which apart from what looks like minor damage should i keep my current pimped out bike or sell the Red Devil? Just trying to consider the untouched nature of the bike vs the 7 previous owners of mine and the various little things that always seem to need doing.

TL:DR; Do up the factory standard DT to perfection and sell it or keep it for myself?

Even if you got it for £900 you'd be laughing,
Seen completely standard and un abused dt's go for silly money on ebay.

Why not do it up, then when it's finished decide which bike you want to keep ?

Either way, a deal like that is too good to let go.

Only downside i can think of is that if you sold your current bike,
(Which looks mint by the way) you would lose quite abit of money should you sell it.
(Don't know how much you've spent on it, but it looks like a good bit)

Aye I'd go with that, at the end of the day its all about budget and funds, both bikes will make money for you mind, and have you the room?.

I have a friend who breaks and sells bikes for a living (who absolutely loves my bike lol) who said i could store and work on it in his garage. Funds i'm a little low on to be honest but i could borrow money for it or my mate might even wanna lend me some and i'll pay him back. If i do get it i'll be doing it up ready for the spring so loads of time to decide.

And yeah that's what i'm thinking. unadulterated DT in near enough mint condition for me to make my own. Obviously it would be pimped as well but wouldn't need as much work. Hoping to have a chat with the shop monday see what i can do

If you cn afford it, defintly hold on to both until you cant anymore. You know you wont lose money that way, if you sold one now and then it was worth a few hundred more in the spring and you could have kept it, you'd be kicking yourself. Sounds like a bargain to me.

update on the bike, some more details.

front headlight missing/ front fender missing, possible missing seat. rear light unit smashed. some bent spokes on both wheels. R/H engine cover smashed (think oil pump cover), L/H engine cover scratched. And they've never started the engine.

And they actually want £900 for it. I didn't even ask if it's an insurance writeoff lol. Going down there with my mate who knows a lot more about this stuff than me and i'm not paying anything more than £500 lol.

It's a toughy. Personally I would want to have a very good look at this bike in the show room. I've got no idea how they could even attempt to tell you it's a 2010 model. That straight away would push me away from the seller. And then you don't even know whether or not it runs?

If it doesn't run then you could find that it has a million and 1 problems with it which eventually cost you bars bars bars (£££). I'm sure you'll make an intelligent decision about it. Just saying from a noob point of view it may be a minter for the money until you get down to the underlying problems!
