Float height check

I want to check the float height so can anyone confirm the correct height and if it is measured from the heighest point on the float without them compressing the valve as per the pic?

At the moment they are almost horizontal and i make them 17 mm, book says 20-21!!!

The other thing i noticed is that every diagram of this carb shows round floats? the last 3 i have seen have all had the same type as the picture and 20-21 is a loooonnnnggggggg way off, which considering it has been running seems a bit odd.

Floats are square in my  carb too , be aware that  the float height can make a big  overall difference to the mixture ,if you have been running ok maybe leave it ,  changing it may mean rejetting .
