Basically, my mate was looking for a replacement top end for his 96 dt and came across this on eBay, full topend for a bargain It's the octagon shape not round And he's worried it's not gonna work Anyone care to shed some light on it

im pretty sure the top end will fit, but the bottom ends dont fit into a dtr frame as the swingarm bolt doesnt go through the cases, as long as you get the barrel and head it should work but the stroke might be different?

Very tricky stuff to predict. You would have to know on this one. It's not only whether or not the barrel fits the bottom end. It's whether the conrod is actually long enough to do a complete precise stroke. Then you have to consider things like port timing.

I take it this engine comes from another DT?

My old dtr came with a 2rk tzr engine in with spares that also had the hexagon shape head and i fitted it and did use it for a while with no major issues other than couple of awkward bits, cos tve cylinder head is a different shape the top engine mounts to the frame dnt quite fit perfectly had to refdrill the holes a bit and the powervalve was smaller but didnt matter cos had full engine anyway bike ran fine with that top end for the short period i used it
