Sacking Over Facebook

Does anyone know anyone that has been sacked or have you been sacked for writing stuff about work on facebook?? I've never really had the need to go and comment about work but I know there are some foolish people out there that do. It's quite bad in many ways as facebook is like home to some of us but just think of the all the younger kids on there posting silly things. As they get older they will too find it hard to get a job.

Don't think you can get sacked for expressing your opinion outside of work, but I'm sure if you posted up how to breach security they might sack ya ;) but yeah the worse they'd do is if they can not give you any hours or not as much if you had a 0 hour or low hour contract, or just give you s****y jobs constantly so that you leave yourself

I know from watching a programme back in the days that employers check Applicants Facebook of ton to help see what there actually like

Not necessarily

Gross misconduct can lead to dismissal.
Also if you're on probationary period you can get the sack straight away

This is why I've changed my name on Facebook and aren't able to be found. I've been to prison and it was once on my Facebook that I'd been. So now no one can find me least of all employers :)

untrue sure you can be sacked for posting negative comments about work on the tinternet ...

ex...

my sisterinlaw

works for a popular phone company  .. some one add'd here to a group on facebook that was something like we hate blabla company ..where loads posted negative comments  about the company ...  she never even liked or looked at the group page ..

was sent home for 2 weeks over it wilst they did some looking in to it ect ...and was sacked ... yes she went to solicitors ect ect ..and nothing can be done

Just make two facebook accounts. One for work one for friends.

I don't bother with Facebook.

Someone I know works for a company and it is a rule of theirs that you are not allowed to use their computers for personal use and not allowed to use mobile phones in works time ,and anyone found doing so will be dismissed , and as for the crapbook thing I do know one guy who slagged his boss off on there and he got a written warning and then was given all the crap work for months till he got sick and left

Facebook is ment to be for us as people so we should be able to say what we feel at any given time not matter what it is we want to shout about. but in this day n age poop happens.

its starting to feel more and more like companys expect to "own" you dont it? we're expected not to have a life outside work as well as working well above safe working hours, and then get sacked when you slag them off? PFFT... its slowly turning back to the bad old days of slavery i'm afraid hmm

Nah. It's just a state of mind. If enjoy what you're doing then you'll never have to work. Even my Saturday job keeps me well entertained.
