Its interesting that the main jet on the bikes went from 210 up to 96. In 97 it went up to a 240 and then when the RE came out, back down to a 210.

The RE's exhaust was heavily restricted with the CAT so i would suggest this a reason for that.

So having said that, people running a 97-2004 bikes would usually run a 240 with a standard (restricted but less so than the RE) pipe. I would suggest that when running a DEP on an RE youl would want to start with a 250 if not higher and work down. Alot of people dont realise ( myself included until recently) that jetting is never an exact science and that each bike is different. The only way to get it correct is to start high and work down. The other thing to bear in mind is that because this jetting is so sensitive, it is too to the air that it is running in. Your bike might run fantastic one day and then the next, if the air temp or humidity changes, it might feel very different and slight adjustments to the airscrew in these cases will help. I assume thats why it can be easily adjusted from the outside along with the fuel mixture settings.

You say that but my bike runs spot on with gutted exhaust and same jets. However if you think it's worth while I might go to 240 main jet.

Never taken the carb off. That's my next job when I get my reeds. I gutted the exhaust myself and never upjetted.

You can lower the float to reduce fuel or down size the jets.

Never run a bike without its air filter. You get premature wear to te engine.

Dont be silly lad, i dunna waste my time on missus'

on topic, if ya saying its running fine w/oan airfilter, thats gunna be either a jetting issues or a dodgy filter, narrow it down!

right pistons back in and she runs just as she did before .but with a more pronounced powerband .now she is doing this weird gulping noise when i let off the throttle and back on again its really quite annoying tbh as when this happens she loses a tad of power then its back on again. she used to do it a little while back then it stopped so i am not sure what this is i cant record the sound as it happens when im riding .and she still wont idle for more than a minute off choke im slowly getting there ,ps the original problem wasnt the piston! there are two wires that come from the flywheel the blue and white one was severed so it was only making a little connection and i assume this happened when those chavvy bastards smashed my lock in . any more suggestions? ideally i want to chuck that carb as i know this is where the probs are coming from ive cleaned it a few times to no avail i havent got a clue what jets in there and the pilot screw is mashed hardcore doggy style .

Definitly sounds like carb problems still, and if you've checked the internals of the top end then i suposed it will have to be. Getting a replacement carb is an option but remember that someone else could be selling theirs because they are having the same problem as you. If you get another you'll still have to set it up for your bike. This is the nature of 2 strokes.

If you're really struggling, take it to a bike shop. Pay the money to have someone who does it day in day out, to have a look and set the carb up right. Take them all the jets and a couple of fresh plugs and ask if they can sort it. If they do sort it, ask them what it was so you know for next time.

Yep mate. I'm actually really glad you mentioned it. NORFE recons that it runs spot on standard so I've bought and fitted the 240 jet. It was running 210 which was a cheek. So appreciate you mentioning It.

Don't know. Haven't got the engine running yet.

It ought to cause when I do get it running it'll have the dep system on. And I put the carbon fibre reeds in today.
