when doing my head gasket a few weeks back i relised i could with one finger move the piston side to side not loads but like it had to much play , is this right as i thought they should be tight in the bore i was thinking possibly a new set of rings its a standard piston as far as i know abd just touch the 20,000 mile mark ?

If it is on the standard piston at 20,000 miles I would take the head and barrel off and check the clearance as per manual , I would expect it to need a rebore and piston .

Yep after 20,000 miles I would treat it to a rebore and new piston.

That unfortunately is just maintenance on two strokes.

If the bore is scored then yeah.

If you bought new piston and rings an it had play you ought to have changed it there and then.

Surprise....

A piston and rings is just maintenance on two strokes. 20k on a four stroke is low. On a two stroke that's well overdue top end work.

What rebuild. I thought you just left it as it is.

If you rebuilt the engine then did you bleed the auto lube system? If not then that could be your case. We'll need to see some pics of the bore, piston and spark plug.
