I used water in mine ,jet wash sorted it right out ,then pluged it and filled with reusable rust treatment, after filled it with petrol it's been fine for about three years now
,try using a hose instead , if you hold the tank with th cap at the top there are two sides of the tank it can get to,this is because of the spine of the tank ,so u need to hold the tank so that the cap is vertical and flush it like that BUT when u empty it u need to turn it upside down and all the way over to the tap hole to let it out !
If you get a torch u can see right down in there

Hey tuner, please don't use petrol ,cal is telling u only put a little bit in each time lol that's even more dangerous than filling it and swooshing it around,if you use a small bit you will just fill the tank with vapours very quickly, and after all it is an abrasive against bare metal that ur tryin to flush .......CABOOM.....

i was aware he would get some sand in the tank. but i cant seem to flush it all out, whenever i flush it with a bucket of water and let it dry back out i can still hear sand moving up and down inside the tank
well you cant be certain all the sand is gone without cutting the tank in half lol, ill get as much as i can out, it sounds like even when i fill the tank with water the sand is dry? i mean i can hear the sand running up and down even when its wet inside? is there more than 1 chamber in the tank? its very hard to flush out
The job is very simple. Go to the petrol station with a small jerry. Fill it up. Block one end of the tank up. Pour some petrol in. Give it a good shake and dispose of the petrol carefully.
Repeat a few times until no more sand is coming out.
petrol is too expensive to be using as a cleaner lol as long as i flush the tank out with petrol once after the water surely itll be okay and wont rust?
ive been filling it, shaking and draining it for about an hour and still hear sand inside
Petrols expensive? Mate £5 worth of petrol and that'll sort it out. I use it to clean the radiator out after two stroke got in there. You don't need loads. Just little bits at a time.
jet wash sounds the best idea, im considering blasting the jet wash in there a few times, drain it, blast again and then dry it completely out, flush it once more but this time with petrol, empty it completely and then install on bike :)
Lol! The exteria of my petrol tank rust like fook. And that's suppose to be treated with rust proof. The inside isn't designed to let any water in and you it's a good idea to use that to clean it. Sup to you mate. I suppose it's only £400 for a new tank from Yamaha. For the same of a £5 which is too much apparently then yeah go for it.
Have u ever actually cleaned the inside of a 22 year old dtr tank lol,it sat for ten years with petrol in it I tried EVERYTHING and that was what worked for me , the high pressure got all the shizz out and made the tank sparkle when it had the rust treatment ,this rust treatment neutralises rust ,then as said above just fill it with petrol when it's dried( I used a compressor to get most of th water out quik then out came the hairdryer ,it's still shiney now
