managed to bag a dt125r 3rmj model -2000 - tax and mot for a very cheap price. after much begging with the wife i was allowed to purchase and not allowed to store in my hallway or dining room hahaha.

last had a dt125r back in 1994- when i purchased an E -reg dtr125- forever regretted selling it for £550 back in 1997-after spending fortune on rebuild!!

anyways back now- approaching 40 and thought i'd try something for commuting to work.

Needs some parts like levers, side stand, new headlight cowling, rear tailtidy, indicators, rear silencer(have one but needs welding)rear tyre, and screws missing from side panels all over, seat needs recovering, needs hand grips and shields- and most important needs engine rebuild.

have approached couple of members to help initially with engine and spares- just debating to go back to bare bones and bring to standard? not a fan of SM look so keeping it strictly enduro./trail look.

gonna upload pics now to follow

Nice bike love a blue DT. Mines was in a similar state won't take much to get that back on the road if you know what you are doing. Look forward to seeing the progress

so started stripping down frame and managed to remove the engine today-nagging free from the boss lady!

some more pics follow- couple of questions -regarding crankshaft have a look at pics and give me some thoughts on state? hoping i dont need need crankshaft really otherwise could be expensive rebuild?

some pics of barrel also- no deep score marks but can see where piston has caught it.

Anyone got a temp sender unit for the top of head also? seems the one i had the wire has snapped off it?

What can i use to clean the cases and possibly spray silver to give it little shine?

Crank looks fine, just a little surface corrosion so as long as there is no play in the big end then you are good to go.

Try and move the conrod up and down vertically while the crank is stationary. I would recommend simmons engine enamel for your engine you can get it on ebay for £11. As for the rear fender you might have to sand it then paint it. Or as I would definatley do,  buy a Hipres one!

You can remove the white stress marks from panels with a heat gun ,check YouTube

There's no point in painting plastics as it doesn't last even if done properly it will crack and flake before long ,if u use the heat gun it will bring all the colour back and will shine the surface too and it's free

It's gonna be like crimbo all over again when that lot turns up, did u get a genuine head gasket ? They are the only ones that work properly (and Athena coz They r exactly the same) all other gaskets for th dtr r ok except for the head gasket ,

Just book it with parcel monkey probably do for around 15 / 20 tops as it's small

Don't tell them it's an engine, they aren't going to check just make sure it's wrapped well

You can get the micro ones in led or bulb form so just buy some bulb ones and no need to mess about

Dark Green and Dark Brown are indicator power feed wires dread, along with a Black common Earth wire for each. if your bike is a pre 98 model look in the Electrical section under Looms for a re-mapped wiring diagram I did, that should help some.

EDIT

Just read further up, and seen that your bike's a 2000 model, indicator wires are still Dark Green (Left hand side) and Dark Brown (Right hand side), with a Black Earth, but the re-mapped loom diagram won't be a million miles off the 89-98 looms though.

So bottom end parts all arrived today ....yeah. also my replacement complete engine also arrived....yeah yeah lol
Any ways gave all the plastics a good scrub today.got kids involved to do most of the scrubbing, who said child labour was abolished ha ha ha
Come up all shiny, will treat them to a good cycle in the dishwasher when wifes away. Got round to looking at headlight and cowling... the subframe has 2 parts snapped off where you fasten the cowling to hence why there were cable ties

So if anyone has a cheap one please contact me asap.

Also noticed on headlight that the main bit for bulb is missing? Anyone else have one lying around please?

Anyways back to the main head scratching. ?.. cant find the wiring for front indicators anywhere? What colour wires am I looking for and where abouts are they ? Cant see nothing at all, can find rear ones at back of frame but fronts?

Missing also the coolant expansion bottle at back if anyone cqn help? Have posted in wanted section too. Will getmore pics up when I finish set of nights....

Also cant post pic at moment but in middle of frame in the loom prev owner has cut a blue and white wire and joined together with a black and jyst twisted it?cant find ref to that wire
