Smaller smoker starting out mate 125 its more than enough when you starting out on motorcross. Riding a 2nhalf round a field is one thing riding a 2nhalf on the mx circuits different kettle of fish altogether trust. Nice to have all that Power underneath ya an all that but knowing how to handle it on the circuits is another. You learn to walk before you run don`t same applies here unless you like falling off alot ha.
Enjoy whatever wheels you choose

I'm getting a Mx bike in 2 weeks time but wasn't sure what to get. I want a 250 for the reasons it has a bigger piston & more power. i've road a RM250 before but only on feild. I'm starting track riding in april or may just wantted to know all your thought on the best bet of bike to get! & no, not a CR500. Lol
Four strokes are more controllable on the track (so I've heard). But if you're like me and have a strong passion for two strokes then stick to the two strokes.
It'll come down to what's this going to be for you.
The odd weekend a year full blown motorcross I'd get a 250 two smoker or 125 two smoker. Killer fun!
Serious motorcrossing for the weekend a month then you'll probably want something with a little less maintenance.
I don't motorcross so I don't know. There's a few on here that do though so they'll be able to give some good advice
if your just starting then id recommend a 125, what colour is up to you but i would and did go for a yamaha yz ! the reason id recommend a 2 stroke 125 as you have to think more about your riding where as its alot easier on 4 stroke so you wont develop the same skill, also a 250 2 stroke will be a bit much to start with id say.
after a season on the 2 stroke then depending on whether your really keen on them or not then id probably go for a 250 4 stroke (similar power but more controllable) or if you really get the hang of it and have nuts then maybe a 450 4 stroke or 250 smoker. or get a ktm 350 (lightness of a 250, power of a 450). hope this helps

iv ridden 250 + 450 4 bangers and a 220 smoker and obv 125 dt lol . and after that i would defo go for the 4t bike m8. personally id get the 450 or 525.lol but if ur jus startin out id go for the 250 4stroke or smaller smoker
I used to fully do mx and i even raced, I hardly do it now due to selling the bike but starting again this year : D but my advise to you if you're just going to do the odd weekends riding i'd go for a 250f i had a 125 first and even tho it's only a 125 you have to be in shape to ride it, 2 strokes require a lot more work on and off the track, I suffered really bad with arm pump on the track with them! I done 1 or 2 races on the 125 and it was tiring! So i sold that and then got a crf250 which was a beauty to ride!! A lot more easier to ride than the 125 and also because i could ride a 125 hard it meant i could thrash the 250f about, yeah it's heavier but it pulls amazing! Lots of low end grunt! Racing the 250 was great as well! A lot less work to be done! Plus you don't to be In to good of shape haha, go honda and get a crf! If you want any more Info drop us a PM : ) hope this helps!

deffo lighter but not as powerfull ridden both exc 250f and 450 one after the other on same track and the 250 was a 2011 model n 450 was 04-05 model, but the 250 was definalty more nimble but i reckon after a gd few hours on the 450 id be givin 250f riders a gd run for there money in the woods. open straights the 250 would be left behind no probs
problem is bradders arfter a few hours your arms will be hurting so much you cant throw it around lol that danmoto on youtube i was talking to him and he said the best thing he did was sell the 450
Yeah you could like but like toy said you can only go so long before your arms ache it's a thing we call "arm pump" riding the 250f all week from 10 till 5 with an hour break for lunch then the odd fuel stop and jesus! My arms were solid! By the end of the week i was aching all over and i couldn't even open the van door!!

lol i know what arm pump is. got it alot on the dt when doin enduros on it, i found the dt was hard work as it was gutless in low end rpm constantly changing gear for hill climbs and tight bends, handle like a pig aswell. never had confidennce in the corners with the dt. jumped on the ktm 250 n 450 and was unbelivable. jus point it in the direction u wanna go n it goes, also the kdx 220 is pretty sweet, prob the most aggressive iv ridden, rm125 was crazy aswell but didnt have the serious low end grunt of the 220
Yeah mate they're animals!!! How on earth i ever managed to get round a track with BIGGG jumps and a wave section i'll never know!! And yesssss!! The noise is amazing!! Especially when you have it wide open in 3rd hitting a jump!!
