1989 3MD matching numbers project

So I'm still not sure why I've done this but I guess I've been bitten again by the DTR bug!

I found a DTR 89 on ebay that had been stripped down and used offroad. It was fairly close so asked a few questions, made an offer and next thing i know it's being delivered to me!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261151654228?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

It arrived this morning and I was even happier when it turned up with this lot!

Here is the bike as it stands

It has an old style Dep reare silencer. 3MB head and barrel ( on a 3MD bottom end interestingly and he claims it runs well)

Frame and engine numbers are present and matching the old style V5 that it has come with ( will apply for the new one).

Ignition barrel in place with key.

Probably wont get around to doing much with it until the summer as I have my brothers 89 DTR to get fixed up first and the DT200WR too but I couldnt resist it!

Exactly my thoughts Callum. Would hate to see it getting scrapped especially when its so close to being a great bike again.

Yeah I've not seen many like that. I probably will leave it as is. Let me know if you find a seat cover. Might ask nev see if he can find out exactly what colour or part number it is, see how much an Genuine is. Makes a real difference.

The only Blues I have for 3MD1 89 bikes are Solid Endurance Blue,(00TV) and the Solid Cosmic Blue (pastel/baby blue)
The Yamaha model codes for 3MD1 seats are Solid Endurance Blue 3BN 24731-20-00  Solid Cosmic Blue 3BN-24731-10-00

The 3MD1 Bikes also came with a Chappy Red seat but am sure that the 3MD1 bike I have came with the Rasberry Red seat (Pinkish one)

Got this started today. I've got the local VJMC's ultrasonic cleaner at the mo so when i turned on the fuel tap and petrol came flying out of the overflow on the carb I thought id give it a go. Worked pretty well. Gonna do all my carbs whilst it's here. Might as well make the most of it.

Put the carb back on and the bowl filled nicely with no overflow. With the choke on she started but would only run on tick over. Any throttle action killed it and then after a while the revs started to build up on there own. Will need to investigate. Hadnt planned on starting on it but I finished the other DT and there wasnt time to start on my brothers bike so had a tinker.

Will need to have the carb off, re jet and start from scratch. I also didnt tighten the inlet hose clips which could have been part of it. Nice to hear it run though.

Now to sell the 98 DT! Cmon someone must know someone who wants one! :)

The UK 89 model is 3RN1 , the seat cover for the Black 3RN1 is Solid Endurance Blue identical to the one thats on it in the pictures, the Cosmic Blue seat is for the Endurance Blue bike, Rasbery Red is the correct seat cover for the 88 3DB1 89 3RN1 and 90 3RN2 White bikes, the Pink seats on the 91,s are Vivid Magenta

Buy the way nice find Andy, I must have missed that one lol. Did you get it before the end of the auction or did u win it or was it a buy it now.

Aye 3mb's show starter motor but not the 3md1 nor the 3me1's

Just checked now,and there is a parts list for a starter, so like you say it must have not been used on the UK 3md model.

The 89 3md1 bike I have, is classed as a DT125E in the parts list whereas the 3RN1 is down as a DT125R, I've looked at both but can't see any differences between them, colour schemes the same too.

The only other I know is DT125R Electric from 89, you would have got them in France etc or the 3NC that is a France only model code though. Parts start 3NC-F even though they are the same as ours.

They had kick and electric back in the days when dinosaurs walked the earth and the DT125R was worth owning.

Is this project complete now? Or haven't you had the time yet? I know we're only JUST in summer, but would love to see this project move forward. You fired her up yet? Blown the cobwebs from the pipes?
