so i finnaly got the bike going did the top end bought her a load of shiny bits etc then started her today and she idled out of control thats no 1 so i drove her down the road in the hope that it myt be a blockage got half a mile and the back wheel locked up so it seized for a minute i then started the bike again go further down the road and that was irt the long push home ,when i got back i took the xpanny off looked up the port and there was no problems took tank off to see if throttle was jamming nope ,took plug off and it was white! there was no oil residue either so my guess is its running lean however it doesnt explain the high idle can someone help me honestly now i really cant take much more of this its had oveer£1000 spent on it i rebuilt the whole engine that did well then 6 montths later top end went, fixed it then it went again rthe piston was white now it looks like its going again after 20 minutes! i will burn this ****ing bike ive ****ing had enough what can it be ?
A faster idle can be caused by a lean pilot curcuit but there is other things it could be check all of the above. What mods have been done? What spark plug u running?air box mods? Did u remove the carb or inlets recently? Somthing is not right
1:Make sure ur tank filters not blocked aswel, yknow the little gauze things in the tank , gotta be fuel starvation or air leak, 2:get it started and spray wd40 or something flammable all around the intake tract and if it goes nuts you have found ur leak, 3:check the petrol cap is not blocked as this will cause less fuel to get throo, could be a creased fuel pipe also,
4: if all that fails take off the flywheel and check your woodruff key isn't on it's way out as timing can cause this also, hope this helps dude and don't give up it'll be worth it in the end
hello everyone i am at my wits end the bottom gasket had a leak so did the top bodged them for now the bike is running at the moment and idles very well ON CHOKE! i keep pouring mounds and mounds of ****ing money into this **** with no pay back im going to have to sell it ! someone else can deal with it il swap for a 125 four stroke
You've got to make sure that there is no gasket left on the cylinder when you put fresh ones on. Otherwise it defeats the purpose.
PERSONALLY!
I'd INVEST £15 pounds into a new head gasket.
I WOULD NOT RUN THE BIKE ANY MORE!
If there is a problem with how it's built then you are just going to cause more damage and you won't be able to sell it for anything!!!!
In its current state it won't be worth much,.
WE ARE HERE TO HELP!
Get the cylinder off. Check its ok. Get some photos up.
Get a sheet of glass. Selotape some wet and dry to it. Water the wet and dry and gently rub the cylinder in a circular motion over the wet and dry to remove any gasket on the cylinder and to remove any imperfections.
Are you sure the head wasn't warped?
If it is do the same thing to the top of the barrel and the head. You'll need to take the studs out obviously.
You've got to be paitent.
If you buy a four stroke who's to say that won't go wrong. And they are a lot harder to work on than a two stroke.
DI d you torque the head and barrel downbwhen you reassembled or just as guessed? That was my initial fear so I went on scrounge for stag a torque wrench and feel little better kniwing they tightened to correct level
the prob is calum i just dont have the heart to do it anymore and i cant afford the garage ,and dread im very dyslexic (seriously) and i cant read a torque wrench ive got a brand new one but just cant read it .
To be fair mate Dyslexia has got nothing to do with reading a torque wrench. They are professional equipment designed for the profession. I don't know how to read one. I've just set it to what I think it should be and have had a go. I haven't had anyone show me yet.
It is disheartening mate but the fact of the matter still stands. With a non running dt regardless of its condition it WILL struggle to reach that high benchmark of £1200. It would be even worse to sell it for that much since if it were running it wold be worth more.
For that sort of money you could get a nice four stroke or you could end up with something worse than you've got here. That would be the real shame!
i dont wanna sell calum believe me and i know its high,i want to fix it but cant put my heart into it i need someone with more knowledge and patience to take the reigns on it as i keep ****ing it up the head must be warped and barrel ****ed to
yea i cant live without it m8 ,ive asked a friend to come up and help me fix it next week if theres two of us then it takes the load off of me a bit i took that top end on and off four times yesterday
literally charlie matei just need someone to take the load off when youve done the top end 4 times it gets to the point where you cant do it again if i could get a few people down that would be great get a takeaway or sumthin and bosh it out ive got all the tools and haynes and a torque wrench im sure it will now need the cylinder doin il take it off at a later date and take some pics,im having nothing but bad luck this year and will be grateful if anyone can help i dont wanna go to the dark side (4t)
id be willing to come down and give you a hand (done it enough bloody times, i know the feeling lol), im sure ronnie, hayden, barney, matt and avi and ad will be up for coming to help too? need to go out for another ride out like we did before, was great fun!
thanks charlie ;) il get the funds for some parts (gaskets) i think though that the cylinder cud be ****ed the piston is scored but doesnt seem to be causing any issue how much would a new piston and rebore be ? ive had it done b4 but i think there is cheaper places
usually costs me about £100 for rebore, piston kit and small end bearing, head gasket is about £13, put some pictures up from up the exhaust port so everyone can look at the damage, should be able to tell what caused it exactly
have you ever upjetted it? that night we went out my bike was running lean (and for the next 700 miles!) after i rebuilt it, put a 240 jet in from 210 and its running sweet now
when we went out i did think your bike idled funny like it had an air leak or something
