2003 DTR-SM. Aftermath of going bang

So I thought I'd collate all what I've previously written about both my bikes into one thread. Keep it all central etc and you lot can keep tabs on whats happening and blah.

So from my previous topics. I've crashed the bikes countless times, rebuilt them countless times and gone through 2 head gaskets + 1 gearbox. I went to my local motocross/machining/engine workshop guy and he did my rebore and skim for £45quid. I'm gonna see how much he'll charge to rebuild the bottom end too as he's close. (Sorry Norfe, If he's the same price as you mind, I'll give you the work ;))

After the 2003 DTR was stolen I then acquired the 1991 DT after a while. Got that on the road and here we are today. The 2003 DT is being converted to Sumo. Went through XT660 wheels but their a pain to line up and fit, so have opted for DTX wheels instead. Gearbox went on a recent trip to Leicester and I had to ride home in 3rd. Anyway, exhaust exploded yesterday due to a blocked rear pipe.

Pics..

The 1991 as it stands atm. Filthy and abused.

I'm ashamed to say it's in a **** state and nowhere looking as good as the other DT when I got it. It hasnt been washed since I've had it and does about 450 miles a week atleast. Proper abused work horse :( But it's all in good cause, it's a temp bike until I get the SUMO on the road. Then I'll be stripping it for parts, servicing the remainging bits and getting the engine rebuilt.

..So, the Supermoto as is.. The engine is in the garage with no top end currently as mentioned it's at the garage being rebored and skimmed. Remember it's in much the same state as when I got it back from beind nicked minus plastics and off road/enduro wheels.

Honda XR125 anyone? Or chinese equivalent? Hahaha

IMGP5628_zpsaa092c69.jpg

So that's how the DT-SM stands as of now. Alot of the parts from the current bike will be switched over.

I'm in the market for new plastics, diff swingarm, USD front forks, trailtech Vapour, Supermoto front fender, Supermoto style front light.. You name it I want it atm.

Ive been everywhere on it mate, gets wheelied and **** everywhere. I've been through a set of tires in 2 months lol. And to think it's predecessor was an 80kit racing Derbi Senda SM. LOL

Aim is to make the sumo gnarly looking and proper beaut at the same time. Subtle touches and noticeable **** if you look twice. :) Oh, and it'll be cleaned at regular intervals and if I can help it never ever taken out in the rain lol.

I do kinda like the look of it being filthy and stuff.. I mean it's horrible to see if you're after a concourse DT but for a 22 year old bike it's still pretty clean under all the road grime and ****. hahaha

Yeah I most likely will get some tips and help from him, he's done a really clean install of his forks which is what I want. I want them to look like they were from factory on the bike. Can't wait to get them and give them a tidy up :D

Little update. as some of you know I got hold of some yam XT660x wheels from eBay a while back and rather than have a headache of getting them fitted (They have a cush drive rear so would have been a serious pain) I'm taking them to a wheel builders down the road from me in Fleet and having him lace the 4.5 inch rear rim and 3.5 inch front rim to my DTX hubs. Mainly because the rear spokes on the wheels I have on the bike now are seized and he is doing me a deal on the new rims and SS spokes. I'm purchasing a new front light from Naththeoleladdddddd and hopefully when I get paid I'll have enough (from treating the ball and chain) to get some new plastics and sticker set from the dude on ebay :D

Exciting times. :)

After a very brisk clean..

Should wash it more regular in winter, bud. The road salt absolutely eats away at the frame and exhaust in winter.

Not to mention all the other metal parts, chain etc. Should oil the chain regular too. ;)

The chain gets regular maintenance. I know it's not good but I used the bike all day everyday so don't have time to clean it regular :(

Yea stillbroke, just need to get a bracket made for the front disc :)

Yeah maybe? I only paid 25 for the bracket so cheaper than the forks. Although it'll be redundant when i get my yz forks

I mean the bracket will, cos ill have to yet anther bracket made. Although I may get hold of some metal and make up a bracket myself. All you really need is a file, a hacksaw and a drill lol. The yz forks have a different boot pattern so will need to start from scratch.

Not wanting to piss on your fireworks like, but are they able to go through an MOT?

I was going to have these on mine but they wouldn't have passed the MOT

So some inconsiderate **** decided to reverse into my bike when it was parked so ended up bending the rear of the frame and damaging my enduro wheels. Thankfully the supermoto wheels are being refurbed currenrtly so they werent on the bike to be damaged.

I ended up swapping everything over to the 2003 frame, So it's all good now. 2003 loom, frame and engine all together again.

I brought brand new Renthals, with 6 inch rise cos i'm 6 ft 4 and feels so much better with them. new progrip handguards, progrip grips and 3 bolt kits from ebay. Got it all fitted and then took receipt of Nathlads old front light. I LOVE it.

The bike after someone drove into it..

The bits missing are now on the other frame

Sorry to hear about the w@nker driving into your bike bro. Looking nice though, keep it up! What is the light output like on the new headlight, any good? I've heard you can easily upgrade those bulbs as well. Might consider getting one in white if they do 'em at this rate. 'Cuz i'm getting pissed with my headlight bulb situation :@

I've got a vapor trailtech on the way. Until then I just brought some crap amazon bike speedo thing. Pretty accurate and has altitude and direction.. why I'd need those I don't know but its handy haha!

No idea about mot nev. Its just had one month or so ago so I'll change it if its a problem for the next one.

With regards to light output I haven't a clue. With both of the lights on I reckon it'll be enough for what I need. If its not I'll upgrade the bulbs. Can't wait for the supermoto wheels to come back now. Then I can start piecing all the other bits together. :D
