I cant hand over or appoint another admin or I end up in the position the original owner got in. The person who handed this place to me has all that info.
Taking each thread one by one will never work, lots of good info hidden amongst lots of crap. Was really hoping it could be moved in at least sections but understand that may be too much to ask.
damn
Project threads, pics etc are good to read for a while but when you need mechanical info and it's just not there, the forum becomes useless.
Is there any way to change that into a Home Page? Leading to possibly here? Just like the original homepage for here . It had a few pics and some info about de-restricting.
The extras seem so much sweeter over there. Chat box etc built in, better search engine thing.. but fcuk me the thought of starting again with half the info is scary.
This place will never close completely, too much info. The most that would happen is I make it all private and nobody can see anything but a link to a new site. But again we'd need a substantial amount of info copied across.
I can make a homepage yes with info on derestricting, etc with a link to the forum.
I agree its a big task. If your game then ill get started started, purchase the domain and get copying stickies over. But ill wait on your say so.
Id help out in moving over threads if you wanted us to. Id say if we do move over to this new forum to keep this one running just incase something goes wrong with the new one, and also so that people will still be able to view all the old info on here which wont be moved over. Maybe you could just lock it so that people can view but cant post and just have a message on the homepage of this one saying we've changed sites and a link to the new one
Actually, it shouldnt be that hard to get it featuring higher in the search engines. Just checked on Google with
site:dt125r.activeboard.com/
Theres 9,850 active links that have been indexed. So with a new home domain with several well thought out pages and promoted well, you will see these posts start appearing higher in the search engines (if thats your intention of course).
The De-restricting section is indexed but if you type in "dt125 de-restricting", i cant find it on the first 6 pages.
So my opinion would be to keep the http://dt125r.activeboard.com and setup a new domain with dt125 in it and promote the new domain very well across other forums and get links in from other motorbike websites to the new domain.
dt125.org.uk is available which is the cheapest long term option or email the owner of dt125.co.uk and ask can you have it
It looks like it was purchased as a company acquiring domains but the company has been dissolved so no longer trading.

Creating just a landing page might not help much in terms of indexing the threads on here so they start to appear in search engines. I've never had much joy unless the landing page has lots of information on it and is on the same domain as the threads its linking to. You would probably be better creating a new home on the new domain and have quite a few extra pages on the domain with DT technical information so its at least got information and keywords the search engines will pick up on. Then stick the forum link on there with maybe links to each individual category. But just sticking one link to the forum and hoping all the threads will be indexed is a long shot in this day and age without a search engine optimisation strategy in place.
Alternatively, you could find someone who knows a bit more about websites and ask them to set up a a REDIRECT, so all the old threads would now be seen as say www.dtr125r.com/forum/easier-way-to-access-this-site-hope-admin-doesnt-mind/.
This way would work better for indexing with the search engines if work was put in to get it in the search engines.
I can show you what I mean as a sort of an example.
We took a new product on called Oscar Vitalmax Juicer. Our website is optimised for the word juicer but after 3 months of listing this new product we were at position 74 on google out of 25,000.
So I bought the domain www.oscarvitalmax.co.uk and created a website for it, linking to the specific product on our website www.juiceland.co.uk
So if you now type in Oscar Vitalmax Juicer into google, you will see our website at number 2 and the new domain i created at number 4.
Point being, this strategy can work across different domains but its not simply a matter of sticking it up and hope, you have to put legwork in to get links from relative websites to your domain to get it found in the search engines.
As a disclaimer, my experience is in a competitive keyword market so may not apply to something more niche as DT125 and it might work based on the fact its not such a popular search terms, so not a lot of competition.
Then I reckon that sounds easier if skinbob doesnt mind. A home page would be great. If it works out ok ill implement the Gold option on here opening up chat and other features etc
Ok cool let me know what you need thread wise info wise etc and if you need a basic design. Input welcome because my ideas are siht
From what I remember the original homepage had some pictures, some de-restricting info and that was about it. It linked off to here and that's where the traffic came from. Is it more or less the same thing?
The original domain name was dtr125.com started in 2005 Aug 5th. There was also a shop that sold DT parts that I just closed down. It was set up to try and make money off people.
Im going to go into admin panel and screenflow it so you can all see what I see and the options that are available
