hi guys, this is the first 5 wire powervalve motor i have messed with all my others are 3 wire so not sure whats up here. Basicly the powervalve motor does the selftest in the correct direction. but when running the servo turns backwards?

here's a video

Strap the camera to yourself and go up the road. Sounds like its all good but you'll really notice when you go up the road. It'll do either one of two things. Rev to 6k and struggle to climb revs.
Or rev nicely through the rpm range. If its the latter then its fine. If it struggles to pull past 6k then obviously theres a problem.

Unfortunately i havent learnt enough about the YPVS to comment!

hi Calum

the shaft is being turned upside down though, so the shaft is basically filling the exhaust port rather than turning into it's cavity when opening. It's a bike i am building so not rideable atm. Cant swap the cables around as it self test's the right way then goes the wrong way when running so it jams the pulley. i could get around it by swapping the wires around inside the servo but id rather find why it's doing it.

Im sure theres logic to this. Someone will tell you why. Just give it some time.

well here's a video of the 3 wire on the 1990 DT.  see how the 3 wire goes anti-clockwise as the powervalve opens up.  the 5 wire motor goes clockwise so in effect closing the exhaust port as the revs climb.

both powervalves self test the right way, but the 5 wire once the engine has started goes backwards so it's not like i can even swap the cables.

What happens when you give it more revs as this is what mine does. Low revs and it shuts the pv off then at about 6000rpm it fully opens. Im not 100% sure but from what i can tell on the vids iv watched the older 3 wire servo's dont work the same they dont go backwards then forwards just forwards to fully open. If it doesnt open at higher revs somthings not right. Is it the original servo for the bike?

If you cross the wires to get around it you might aswell pin the pv open because as soon as you rev it its going to be fully open

Yeah that is what i mean about the 3 wire servo. The 5 wire servo should go clockwise then anti clockwise. Rev it up more it should open

oh i feel such a Tit. i see what you mean now these work completly different from the old ones. it looks like the 3 wire ones but seems to give more bottom end by lowerring the exhaust port further more at about 3-4k then suddenly decides to open.

Oh well lol. it went up to about 11k
