DTR 125 Vs 200/230

Question for anyone who has ridden both offroad.

Right, I use my DT for green laning mostly. Currently it's fairly standard. I'm considering changing wheels/forks/swingarm for lighter/better ones.

I'm also considering dropping a 200/230 engine in it to give a bit more power which would hopefully make it more usable on the lanes.

Is it worth it or should I just get a mild tune on the existing motor?

Cheers.

Better off just doing your bike test and getting a bigger bike.

its plenty good enough for mild green laning m8 just set the powervalve in the middle somewhere till you find whats right an have a play with sprocket sizes or like callum says do that test an pick up a cheap 250

Ok thanks for the replies lads. Just to clear up a few things I've got a full license but i choose to ride the DT cos I enjoy it.

Toy it's the same for me mate - i ride with lads on ktm's husabergs etc and keep up with 'em ok.

Tripr - i've got a servo on the PV and sprockets are sorted - it all works how I want it.

What I'm after is an opinion from someone whose ridden both a DTR125 and a 200/230 off road to see whether there is any major difference.

I suppose what I would like is a bit more power but to be honest I don't really want to get rid of the DT.

So is it worth the aggro of dropping the bigger lump in it (if I can find one)?

Power aside, the DT is great for me as it's not maintenance intensive compared to the full on enduro bikes - also every time I go laning at least one them breaks down.

I go enduro racing and trail riding regular and have always had a DT125R 200 and 230 since 89 virtually but not all at the same time. The DT125R will not in a million years keep up with enduro bikes not even 125,s like the KTM Husky and Husaberg enduros and to be honest neither will the 200 or 230, they would shake themselves to pieces first the suspension is crap and there heavy. They are OK for a mild trail ride but for anything else nah get a different bike.

Ridden a wr250... Power on that was mental, thing was falling apart but had to hold on for dear life lol. Imo the dt's not a bad bike, but it is dated now. I had a go on my mates on the other day after not riding one since I sold mine a few months ago. It really feels like a toy after riding the rmx, power wise it's got enough to have a laugh with but it's never gonna handle or turn in like a more purpose built bike. In the same sort of position I was in, either thow loads of money at the dt or sell and get something better. Can't say I've regretted it, do still miss the old dt though lol.

Was it Yam WR250 4 stroke or 2 stroke or a Husky WR250 stroke ? The 2 strokes are the biz but I would rather have a modern 125 2 stroke enduro than a Yam WR250 4 stroke.

The DT,s are fun, I have one as I got one new in 89 the first new bike I ever had....

My current squeeze 2011 KTM 250XC 2 stroke with FMF fatty.
