Well yeh i was coming home from the petrol station after filling it to the top and it made a bang and then another bang and then it cut out so i rolled to the side of the road and tryed to kick it again and thge piston sound like it was grinding and in the end i gave up because it wouldnt start so i ended up pushing it a mile home

Cant hear the sound on the vid mate but yeah, it was f****d when u bought it though and rattling like a bag of hammers thats why it was cheap. I thought you were pulling it to bits and getting it rebored soon as you got it ? I hope you pulled the clutch in when it went bang or you might have caused damage to the crank and crankcases. Touch wood u havent.

Full rebuild needed mate, same happened to mines in October. I would save up and send it to Norfe if you don't want to do the job your self. You could get it fixed cheapish if you do it your self. You main bearings are needed cause they will be full of smashed up piston with NO way of flushing it out. I thought I had till I took mines out. How wrong I was!!

Dont worry to much its a piece of p**s to strip the motor and change the main bearings and seals yourself the full thing can be done in a few hours, the main bearings and seals are very cheap and u can order them when you drop the barrel in for a re-bore. The only thing I would advise you to do is use a genuine Yamaha head gasket when you rebuild it, all the gaskets everywhere else u can use from a cheap gasket set from ebay. If your not to sure about doing it yourself though ask Norfe like Slob said, he can even do some tuning work on it for you at the same time.

Fook going to a yam dealer mate. They will just get the apprentice to do all the work since it's such an easy job. Who would you rather have doing it. An apprentice who couldn't give a fook or someone who wants to do it for fun and has done a number of peoples engines on here AND it will be cheaper!

I rate NORFE he is really knowledgable about the DT's and is a really good chap.

Let your Grandad keep his wad in his pocket. DO NOT take it to Yammy whatever you do mate, If your grandad is kind enought to pay definatley get your engine to Norfe. He will do the work for the fraction of the cost!!

Just PM Norfe.

As for getting the engine out of the bike. Are you kidding me?

Just follow logic lol. Take lots of photos and keep all the bits in sections. Read through the manual if you have to.

Its a piece of piss job for anyone never mind an apprentice or Norfe its only a single cylinder 2stroke at the end of the day with a cable operated powervalve you cant get any easier for a bike engine to rebuild and it wont just get done by an apprentice who dont give a f**k. Everything is done right at a dealership workshop with genuine parts and checked before its signed off,it will just be very expensive for parts and labour probably not far short of what he paid for the bike if they recon the crank and fully rebuild the engine.

I was thinking the other day. If I had got the recovery to drop me off at the yammy dealers as many general public owners would of instead of my garage. I would of spent the same just to get the engine fixed as I would of on my entire project. The price of their bearings and seals ect are nothing short of fraud lol!

its not the end of the world, it happens often on 2 strokes (for me anyway hahaha) and if its only a top end you need providing nothing else is damaged, parts are £120 with rebore, gaskets ect

I mean not being funny we did tell you to sort it out ASAP. That's it now though. NORFE's turn around time is sound if you sort out the posting and what not.

You have to find out if the piston is smashed up. If it is I don't think there is any benifit to not doing a full rebuild. I got the last of those aluminium filings out my crank halves laid out in my back garden with a jet wash!

It will have shattered at the skirt. You will have to remove the cylynder head and have a look. If you heard it crunching around I would bet good money a bit of the skirt broke off.
