Put it this way mate. You thought the dt was quick before? That's was running fook all compression. That was the bike running like shît. When it's been fully rebuilt and ran in that's when you'll think it's rapid lol.

But you're not getting are you scrin. The kid struggled getting the frigging engine out! Do you really think he is going to be able to flush out the bottom end and be 100% sure there are no fragments left in there! Do you really think he is going to feel safe riding it if he knows there is a small chance the bottom end could seize.

Lets say he does flush if and there was a few fragmentseft in their and it completely destroys the bottom end. That is going to cost him even more money. In my opinion if its a job worth doing its worth doing right. There is no point doing things by halves. For NORFE to rebuild the bottom end it isn't a problem. He's happy and wants to do it. He could probably do it blind folded. And it would be nice having a freshly rebuilt engine. Plus if he sells the bike there's that too.

We are not forcing him either way. I've given my opinion. You've given yours. It's up to him what he decides to do. I'm not fussed either way. It's not my bike.

F**k me its like talking to a brick wall, anyway anybody know how to machine the squish band on a YZ490 to stop it detonating ?

Probably a bottom end rebuild lol....................

I put a re lined cylinder and piston kit on my mates 07 RE with a Lanza motor in it over a year ago with a flushed bottom end and its still running fine now after it shattered a piston and cracked the liner.

sum will be fine...its just i wunt want to risk spending £££ on rebuilding a top end and spending £100 odd plus on parts and a day stripping the bike and rebuilding it shopping for parts and down time to rebuild it... to get it all back together and some shard of skirt get back up and wreck the new top end, for instance.....piston siezes solid rod snapps, punches hole in crank cases...then ur back to square 1 in even more **** than u was to start with

if ur gonna do it do it rite once simples....nice new fresh engine good for 20,000 trouble free miles run right

more road time than garage time always feels better

Well Norfe will lubricate all the bearings and what not. Just make sure you've got plenty if oil down the cylinder and barrel. A bit down the bottom end. Then reconnect all the oil lines again. You should need to touch the other pipes so it will just be the one that you've disconnected that would risk having air in. It's not a closed system so it will bleed itself. If you've got lots of oil in the bottom end you'll be alright. But it's as simple as this.

Mix petrol with two stroke (ensures you get oil)
Unscrew the oil bleed nipple
Start engine
Manually operate oil pump
Keep open until no more bubbles are seen in the oil lines. You should be all ok though if you're not disconnecting lots of lines.

The coolant is simple. Just leave the radiator cap off and start the engine. Keep the bike revving to allow the water to circulate. Then top the radiator up.

You might want to check the expansion bottle. Top it up if necessary.

Fill the radiator, I use Motul coolant but there are loads of different makes then let it tick over with the radiator cap off then just keep topping it up till it stops bubbling and job done.

To bleed the oil pump, remove the small pozy head bleed screw and just turn the cable wheel fully round anti clockwise and hold it there as if it were on full throttle, when any air bubbles stop coming out and its just all oil thats it put the bleed screw back and job done.

+1 Always good to have a manual near by for quick reference its money well spent plus it will give you more inside knowledge of your bike in general & help you with good maintainence practices etc
