Four strokes can't keep up with the compression like a two stroke. So avoid dropping the gear down when you're high in the revs lol. You'll risk locking the rear wheel up.
Like said its going to be heavier. It won't be noticeable in a straight line but corners at low speeds and lights is where you'll notice it. You won't be able to throw It around like you can a 125. I've espcially noticed it from my 'light' aprilia rs125 ahermit mothers ninja lol.

Oviously because of the new test rules i'm 21 and have to ride a 500 in order to get a WR400 for when i finish the test! But I just wanted to know, Does any one know what it's like tor ride a ER500 & compair it to a dtr 125... For things like clutch control, throtttle & steering. Thanks
well its alot heavier so you need to watch your balance sitting at lights alot more iv almost dropped my bike so many times thinking its a light dt haha
its alot more powerfull and the gears last so long
yeah, will feel heavy at lights but when your moving it will be fine, be careful of engine braking and using the back brake, im constantly skidding on my bandit because my brakes work now xD
good luck dude ... sure you will soon get a feel for the er500 like rideing any new bike it will feel strange at first and take getting used to but soon feel like you been rideing it for years .
logik you on a bandit now? i lock up down shifting all the time the joy of a v twin XD quite boss when going into a round about then clutch up out of it heheh
Yeah but that said you can't throw the dt around like you can the rs. The rs handles much better than the dt. So it was quite a difference from the rs to a bigger bike. Purely on its positioning and the wheels that you're using.

Completely agree there Cal, my Gixxer 4 is far better handling than my DT/DRZ easily the best handling bike i've owned
Every bike you et on will be different jump on two DT's one after the other and it will be different you just need to take it easy get used to the feel and you will be fine what is more important is observation and road position get that right and you are more than half way there , good luck ,when are you in for it ??

mine went in till the engine went pop about a week in so never fitted them back up with new lump XD my mates bandit had them in made it run like a bag of **** so he removed his now we just rip up the streets
I heard it's easier, at least with the mod 1 (do they still do that?) as you won't struggle to get up to the minimum speed for the speed traps. Although I literally red lined second and got about 8/10mph over it. On a big bike you could literally just open it up a little and have no issues.
****ting hell, Did not expect all these comments hahaha! The test is being re booked around april-may as i've had to pay for new top end! The instructor said he wan'ts to do mod o1 & 2 on the same day! 3 lessons one on just getting to know the bike one on mod one & one on two! I did have a little sit & gho on this bike but no real riding! My instructor said my only faults are (on my cbt renewal) I pick speed up to quick (trying to catch up with nath & thinking i'm offroading) & the rare light saver that's it. I do need to practice more though, ****ing shame that i got to run in my piston next week! Thanks for all your support guys i will take it on board As i'm already a little nervous hahaha
P.S if you want a good handling bike that will run with big bikes on the twistys get yourselves a TDR250 the worlds first and best supermoto they are the best thing since sliced bread.......... I would not part with mine for love nor money.

I know i said to them i wanted to do one lesson half of a day (3 hours) to get to grips on the bike & if it were to be okay then i would do one lesson whole day for module one then the next day module one test. Then after i would book for module 2 lesson & module two test. But they said there words as i quote "Oh no, We will put module one & two on the same day & get it out of the way" Mind you i'm not good with being under pressure so I might just say to do one at a time as i know i would just LOSE IT & probaly punch the test examiner.
Having said that I sold that J reg for nowt silly me the one in the picture but I still have an E reg one with TZR250 wheels on it and I f*****g loves it....
It's only 2 modules one section is 15 minutes & the other 30 mins but it's just the money cost of it :( New test rules i'm only allowed to ride up too 48bhp BUT.... I'm lucky as the bike i want "WR400f" Is 46 at stock! :D I was thinking about getting a tdr but i'm going endurance at a 4x4 track every weekend & i need something light & accelly! 2nd choice is the DRZ400 but i'm getting 2 bikes one for endurance & another to get me to bristol & back to see family
Watch the WR400 make sure you check the valve clearances on it regular as they love to drop a valve and smash the topend to pieces. The TDR is no good off road its a pure road bike and lots of fun 50 bhp TZR250 engine.

mate if your going for the A2 licence 47.9 bhp 35kw ,there is a weight issue aswell as its not just any bike up to 48 bhp if the wr is 46 stock then im betting it comes under the weight regs as its a light bike so power to weight is probably to high, might be worth checking if your not aware heres the gumpf .
Sub-category A2 (standard motorcycle)
Sub-category A2 motorcycles used for tests must:
be a solo motorcycle
be at least 395cc
be between 25kW and 35kW engine power
have a power to weight ratio no more than 0.2kW/kg
