Soup guys,

So I have been a ps3 fanboy for some time. Had an original and few months back it stopped reading discs so I bought a 500gb super slim one...abd it's started playing up this week. Crashing/ not loading etc. Soooo...I'm thinking I'm going to buy an Xbox tomorrow - sky go, any music in game etc. am I making a mistake? I've played an Xbox only when drunk so...should I just buy another ps3? What's an Xbox like for love film, bbc Iplayer etc? Thoughts? I know there's a charge for XBL but meh

If you have mates on the Xbox and don't mind paying for online then it's wicked mate. So much more social. Private chat. Party chat. Faster guide button. More interactive. Like said custom sound tracks. I loved the Xbox when I had it. But it just broke. And again. And again.

I expect my ps will break. But I'm not worried about that. I Will get another Xbox so I can play my old 360 games.

My old 360 didn't have an optical out. I don't think. But yeah I know you can have the surround sound. Just don't think it will be in optical format unlike the ps3

Sounds like possible laser faults on both. Easy to fix mate

Yeah but you shouldn't have to fix them!

They should break in such a short space of time. It's not worth opening to void the warrenty. I would return it for a new one. Just salvage the hard drive

I had the old ps3 for like 5-6 years - served me well. The new ps3 was from gash converters. I'll just trade it tomoz for an Xbox

Lol. I would never buy a used next gen console mate. They won't last I'm afraid!

I loved the original Xbox 360. Not a fan of the Nex Xbox experience. But it didn't detract away from what a good console it was. My problem was that I played online once in a while. So it never warranted having gold. At least with the ps I can play online if I want. I just don't want to.

Yeah iv'e had problems with the old xboxs, but I haven't heard of any one having problems with the 360 slim, and i haven't as well. Deffo should get one over the ps3

Yeah mate, wifis built in on the slims, all the apps work well, bbc iplayer, internet explorer, sky etc

only £32 for 13 months through ebay, its defiantly worth it, especially if you got mates who play it.

and as for kinect, i personally wouldn't bother but each to there own

If you did have any then I would have the ps3. But since you've already owned a ps I'd say get the Xbox. The playstation is technically more advanced. But in my opinion it's flawed. The 360 was an excellent choice when first released. But now lack of hardware makes it out dated. Won't be long till the ps3 follows it ..

If the slim is < 1 year old, contact Sony should still be in warranty. They'll repair it for free.

Yeh did a bit of research...I'll get a slim tomorrow. My only concern is that you can't plug in a hdmi cable and an av cable at the same time? Long story but I need the video output to be hdmi and audio to be av...this is possible with ps3 but is it with Xbox?

I won't bother with kinect lol. Is there anything I should buy with the Xbox tomoz..?

I could take the ps3 back to gash converters or Sony but its all hassle. And the super slim makes a right noise! I'm a bit fed up with ps3 so ill give xbox a whirl!

Yeah I'll take the plunge. I can trade my ps3 for a 250gb slim and still have some cash left over to buy a few games/a headset. I'll let you know how it goes...

Im guessing the reason why you want to have both the use of av and hdmi is because your wanting to have the benefits of hdmi and you also want the sound coming out of a seperate stereo as well by using av cables, am i right??

If so i had the same problem but manged to sort it with a little cheap device

Nah Sarge, not an X-box, the TV, I want to run it through the Bose sound system, the old LG had RCA audio out but this new one doesn't, only head phone socket, scart, hdmi, and digital out.
I think my lad has one for his x-box, but he uses it. just thought one of you gaming lads might have one knocking about, but like the bloke told me its got to be a two way adapter.

Thought so, snapped it on your amp lol..this may still work then

if you have a digital optical audio out port on your tv andv av aux ports on your amp/stereo then your need this little device to convert the digital sound to av analogue audio so you can use your stereo/amp with av cables, here's the device:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Optical-Coax-Coaxial-Toslink-to-Analog-RCA-L-R-Audio-Converter-Adapter-/220904209007?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Tuners&hash=item336eeaba6f

Your also need a, Toslink cable to do it this way (also called a digital S/PDIF or Optical cable) , shortest size of ebay worked for me

Gonna be able to do that way or are you running an old tv at the mo with no digital audio out port??

Ok so as long as if your bose system has the two white and red av aux in ports then to do it the way i did you will need:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Optical-Coax-Coaxial-Toslink-to-Analog-RCA-L-R-Audio-Converter-Adapter-/220904209007?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Tuners&hash=item336eeaba6f

(other users are selling them as well btw, mines lasted well over a year and use it everyday)

 a tosolink cable

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=toslink+cable&_frs=1

(get the size you need, you may be able to get away with one of the shorter size cables if your plug sockets arent too far away)

then lastly white and red to white and red av cables (or white, yellow and red just dont use the yellow), long enough to go from the converter to your bose system, surely you must have the cables spare at home though

sorted...so to set it up tosolink cable from digital audio output on tv to converter and then av cables from converter to aux in ports on the bose system

If you want help with anything else or not sure of anything let us know

Well I got it - they gave me £177 for ps3 and mw3 and burnout and like some crappy bond games...result! Xbox slim 250g was £140 - black ops 2 was 25 so meh.

I sorted the audio issue...I just took a hammer to the av cable that goes into the Xbox and removed they massive crappy casing it has on it, the av and hdmi cable both fit at same time now lol...hdmi to tv , av to amp...sooorted.

Must say I'm liking the Xbox so far !

Talking of audio cables etc, does anyone in here have a scart / rca (red, white, yellow) adapter that goes both ways in and out, so I can run my TV through to the amp?

I'm using the headphone socket at the minute, A tv/adio bloke down the road recommended the scart/rca adapter, TV does have optical/digital out but the Bose is analogue
