Well after starting bike for 1st time yesterday...cant seem to start today...
Seems when igntion off there is a spark, switch it on and there is no spark- more so when i connect the battery?? the sidestand switch wires have been joined together- have a feeling that igntion switch is playing up -so got new one on order.
how do i bypass this on a 2000 model??
strange why no spark when battery joined up though? havent changed anything else from yesterday? although i have fualty carb -airscrew mashed up and nearly all the way out- carb also seems to be leaking somewhere? not fromoverflow either?-prob around base! had noticed on taking spark plug out that very wet??
have you checked all the wireing for breaks and double checked all conections and plugs with any messing around you can easy break strain or losen a wire of conector ..
the wires right at the base of the ignition come under real strain as they bend in to it check them for breaks . is any wireing getting warm to the touch .
will check wires now, but it is sparking..just not when ignition on and battery attached?? can i try running another earth somewhere else?? not sure on all this???
could do with trying to bypass kill switch and igntion barrel if anyone knows how??
looks like he's cut the wires and wired the bike up dont post what wires maybe message him to ask what whire to twist together . lol
also have you tried just unpluging the kill switch ? and your earths will be wires going to the metal on the frame there should be a earth under the tank going to the frame near the coil ? maybe ?
broken wires can be fckers and if there is a break not visable and in side the loom or rubber coating can be hard to find ... used to have a bike that worked all fine untill you sat on it then everything went dead as the break in the wire would open up with the weight on the bike lol .
be sure you have no random wires touching the frame anywhere silly things like horn or indicator wires are lives and earths and are some times over looks as harmless lose wires
not sure why this is happening?? sparks fine when igntion off, but once turned on it refuses to spark...need to know how to bypass in order to test?? reminds me why i got rid of bike 15yrs+++ ago now lol
KILL SWITCH on those simply GROUNDS the primary voltage . So it cannot spark. It literally Shorts-Out the ignition system.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, On bikes which depend upon Battery Power to supply power to igntion system,,,, The Kill Switch OPENS the wiring connection to the ignition ,,,so that it gets no power.
Bikes which have a Key Switch AND a kill switch,,,work the same way. But simply have DUAL SWITCHES. One requires a Key,,the Other is simply a "push button".
On a Battery Ignition,,,The Key Turns ON the electricity then the Kill Switch turns it Off.
On a typical "Dirt Bike Magneto",, The Key UNGrounds the Ignition power,,,so it can spark. then the Kill Switch Grounds out the power to Kill the Spark at the Spark Plug
Shorted ignition wires bypassing the actual switch. Now have spark with battery connected!! Excellent. New barrel it is then. Thanks for everyone's help. Now need sort carb out and gear change seal and then jobs a good un. Put new back tyre on then good for mot.
