Hi All , i have finally got my baby back and she even fitted through my poxy front door with abit of heave ho! lol i set to work on it striaght away , my bike seriously looks as though its been stood in Chernobyl for a decade!! the rear subframe is abit rusty and im having problems removing the 2x bolts that hold the end can on (thats another story) when ii took my seat off the 2x 10mm bolts that you undo underneath have snapped off when i tried to loosen them they have snapped off inside the white plastic part of the seat about 3-5mm in , i have a old seat whats ripped but ideally i'd like to sort it without stripping the cover off it what are my options ??? the bolts yamaha uses are absolute BOB i had another one "ping" on me as well but can't remember where that one was? lastly how the hell do i put pics up so they just appear on the page and not a link to click on?? i really wanna share my project . and i'v also noticed on the right hand side of my carb it looks as though theres a screw missing ,is this normal??

Much Appreciated

Gam

Not got a clue to most of your bike related questions but for your photos upload them to a sharing site, such as photo bucket or Flickr, I prefer photobucket then once you've uploaded it they're should be links with the picture you want the IMG code

There's shouldn't be any empty holes, unless a pipe isn't down the hole and is just loose.

My carb from a 1997 DTR:

Does any experts on ere know where i could get my hands on some anodised red fork caps for 41mm stanchions? really want some for my project , i've came to realise that she wont be ready till next summer now :( im gonna get my yokes and wheel hubs polished to a chrome finish, iv done the green and black wire de-restriction (what a piece-o-piss that was :D) i extended the wire and earthed it to the - ive termial on battery iv got a few detailed photos of that to be put on here at some point, also at some point im gonna whip out the lump and put that to a buffer + about 10 tubes of autosol lol still got the following to do >>

1) gut my standard spanny / find a reasonably priced dep silencer

2)re-chrome/replace my stanchions

3)new battery

4) new rear disc

5)Stainless bolts for my engine

6) ALARM ALARM ALARM

Spider count so far on this project >> x5

T-cut for polishing engine much cheaper than Autosol, have a look in my Black/Green bike project thread on polishing with T-cut. as for re-chroming stanchions, you could probably pick up 2 sets of forks for how much it would cost to re-chrome the stanchions and then there's the added expense of fork seals and oil, you can pick up a decent set off Ebay I'm sure, and ready to go straight on, or even give Deeteemx in here and ask him if he has any spare.
Alarms, have a look at Cyclone 2 alarms, good for around £25-30 on the internet/Ebay.

would there be any issues though with fitting dtr/re stanchions into DTX lowers? as they are slightly different lengths i think theres about 30-40mm difference

Aye forgot you had a DTX, but in theory you could always leave some sticking proud of the top yoke, mind you mine is SM'd with DTR forks and the ride is o.k, but again look on Ebay there's usually some there, or go to AJ Suttons parts list for DTX fork stanchions, and on the same page but at the right hand side, it should show any other bikes that share the same stanchions.

Better handling lol.

Won't make the slightest difference. If you think I'm now running a completely different front end on my DTRE. All there is is a control difference.

You could actually drop your forks by that much anyway if you wanted to. Would just lower the centre of gravity by a fraction.

Could get a decent second hand pair for £80.

I sold my perfectly good ones on eBay for £30. And that was including postage.

I don't think I'd pay that much for DT forks.

Better off spending half that much. A quarter even on decent used ones.

My labour of love to date fork guards fitted and front brake setup just trying to get my suspension spot on now, do you think the twin silver stripes need to go or stay and put more on the tank?
