I don't think the TDR likes the new owner..........
The fella who bought the bike rang me up non too happy there earlier saying that the bike won't start for him today, there's no spark in it! When I parted with it, it was working better than ever (I was actually half thinking of keeping it) and now according to him it isn't working! he has only had it 3-4 days but he has said to me previously that he has been on motorway and covered 100+ miles in a day! I put my Dad on the fone to him because he nos more about the bike than me, and he even offered for the fella to drop the bike out here and my dad would have a look, but your man wanted my Dad to drive over (About 30miles away ) to fix it. In the back of my head I feel like telling the fella where to go, but if I was in the same position as him I would want it sorted too so that is the reason I won't.
What do you guys think I should do? I have the money he paid tied up in the new er6 so there is absolutely no way he is getting money back (even if it wasn't tied up in another bike he wudn't be getting a cent). It is very unfortunate for him, but as I said there has never been a problem with the bike starting for me. I just had the forks serviced before I sold it so I'm thinking some wires could have been disturbed around the ignition switch, but again thats just speculation. Any help on this situation appreciated as I'd say he'll be ringing back tomorrow even more pissed off.
Well only thing I can say to that is the bike was sold as seen! What's not to say he's ridden it a few times not happy with it so messed with the wires to try get a fee quid off you!

Exactly Liam mate, he was delighted with the bike when he parted with the cash! He came out to my house the next day to pick up the top box and other extras I was giving away with it and said it is running great and was saying how far he had travelled on it etc. He seems genuine and like a nice lad, but at the end of the day no1 can really be trusted when money is involved. Bikes break, and that is the bottom line. But he is gunna be wrecking my head now for the next while saying I sold him a dodgey bike, and I have exams this week and next! Worst possible thing to happen!
Just honestly tell him straight mate! That's the only thing you can do! If he keeps on pestering you just turn your phone off haha, the bike was running fine when you sold it, so it has nothing to do with you

Cheers man! It's good to get someone elses input.... I thought I was just a mean bastid! haha! Hopefully he'll understand that he was just unlucky, cuz the bike was in tip-top condition leaving my hands. Maybe its the castrol 2t?? hahaha!!!
Let the buyer beware, it's their responsibility to check the bike is in full working order before buying it. They're not buying it from a shop and I presume you offered no guarantee, so there is no implied warranty. It's a case of tuff titties I'm afraid. Tell him to do one, you've offered your Dad's help to have a look at it - if he's not happy with that - then it's his hard luck. If I was in the same position buying, I'd see if I could get help from the seller but if they refused, there's not a fat lot I could do about it and it would work the same if I was the seller. It's just the chance you take buying second hand and not taking along a professional to look a it.

Thanks for that. Yeah, most people wouldn't even listen to him, but I feel I done the honest thing by offering help, even though it isn't my fault or in my hands now. If I sold it to him knowing it was a dodgey bike it would be a different story, but it was an honest sale and if he can't see that by the way I offered to help him, then I don't think he deserves the time of day.
I had the same thing with my TDR, the day after buying it the piston killed itself, but there was no reason screaming and shouting at the seller, it was my responsibility to check the bike over before buying it.
Sometimes it's just bad luck and you have to take it as a life lesson.
agreed a used bike is sold as seen regardless of how well it runs on the day or what the seller says its had done it all comes down to the buyer checking out the bike them self . if you buy a bike and days later the engine blows that is your own fault you have the chance to look it over prior to buying .
had one or two my self call up 7 days later after 100+ miles and god knows how much tinkering or engine rape asking for money back . you have to be blunt and to the point it was a used bike of bla bla age sold as seen and tell them where to go .............
sold a tzr once and the guy called me 15 mins later ..this bike is fcked I stoped for fpetrol and it now will not start or anything want me money back you robbed me bla bla bla loads of language and threats ... I was fast to ask where he was and jumped on my other bike and rode out to him . he soon became all shy and quiet but still wanted a refund .. upuntill the point I pointed out he had switched the engine run switch on the bars to off ? some real thick tunts out there

I've done that before now! I put my kill switch on whilst getting dog food, after packing away the dog food into my back pack, I forgot about it, checked fuel switch, choke etc, then clicked it was the kill switch.
Another time I looked to see what my spark plug colour was, when the bike was stripped. I went back to putting the bike together, all complete, went to go test it, forgot I pulled the spark plug cap off.
Anyway, now I instinctively check the kill switch.
I used to take of spark plug cap and stuff bit tissue up it as a anti theft just in case they got pst lock so it wouldnt start ...totaly forgot about it and even got me dad out in van to come pick me and the bike up was not till day later I remember the tissue in cap .......shhhhhhhh dont tell my dad
That's actually quite a good idea. I don't take my DT anywhere I can't see it. I'm currently using my ped for shop trips etc, won't be soon though, selling it to fund a restore on the DT, as the frame is rusting away.
I bought the DT for fun, rather than commuting etc, sucks, but that's what happens when you live in a rough area full of chav's eyeing your bike up.
Thanks for the advice guys! I feel more confident now when he rings back. He seemed like a decent lad and owned a few bikes before so I'd say he knows the score, was just trying chancing his arm! fingers crossed anyways! Don't need another headache this week!

No no, it was fully fixed and sorted before I sold it! I wouldn't sell a dodgey bike to someone! Plus the guy is saying that it's not sparking so its a problem with the battery or loom, that is if he is telling the truth and hasn't tinkered with the bike himself!
I rebuilt the engine twice in it! lol

I mentioned this forum and another forum I use to him the day he bought the bike saying that the project was there to view at any time. Whether he'll join up either sites is a different story.
I put my Dad on the phone to him last night when he called and my Dad offered to get it running for him for free... so if he doesn't take that offer he can go and fcuk himself. That is as genuine and honest as you can get. If he rings again asking for my Dad to drive over to him I'll tell him that MDK, cheers!

At the end of the day its the buyers resposibility to ask the right questions and get the right price. He could have gone five minutes down the road and it gone bang because he hasn't put any oil in it.
I know when I sold my RS the guy came and collect it and was complaining because it didn't have much fuel in it. Yes mate. Because i am going to fill it up with my money so that you can use it all up. Pathetic.
Some people don't quite get the risks of buying privately! If you don't want to accept FULL responsibility for the bike once you've bought it then pay more and go to a dealer. Thats my opinion anyway.

I thought you knew it needed a topend rebuild? You made threads saying it was bogging down, and we said it was topend issues, and then someone said inconsistencies in the bore, and you were banging on about selling it for a DRZ 400.
Would be kind of shitty if you sold it without fixing it.
I would happily help out if they asked some questions but unless it literally broke down on the way home from buying it I would tell them to get ****ed
No two ways about it really
In future I wouldn't start offering to personally help out with it / fix it for them opens up a gap for blame and vulnerability for them to start demanding what they want
