Well the DT saga continues.

I bought the bike at the end of January 2013, knowing very basic stuff about two strokes.

How I bought it:

190450_108351526037719_1298169577_n.jpg

I bought the bike in the dark, and it was in a garage with poor lighting, I checked the frame numbers against the V5 all matched, and it started about third kick on a cold engine.

I rather stupidly forgot to bring a torch when I bought it, so failed to notice all the rust over the frame at the back. cry

Anyway, as I was 16 when I bought it, and only turned 17 three months later, I didn't get to properly ride it. I took it for a ride on my birthday and figured it wouldn't go past 40MPH, long story short, it had a blocked up exhaust and needed a top end rebuild.

And I also figured out my petrol tank was leaking because it was bodged with fibre glass filling stuff. disbelief

After the top end rebuild and some other work it turned out like this:

934837_108352002704338_1048720690_n.jpg

Then we had some beautiful weather and I thought I'd crack on with my project. biggrin

So this happened:

306886_116394778566727_1454863214_n.jpg

And today it sits like this:

941225_115822388623966_2144774628_n.jpg

Current plans are to just clear it down to the paint, spray it black again, reassemble replacing broken parts and bolts and other stuff. And then when funds pick up a bit, I'll attempt to get hold of a DTX setup and run it as a supermoto.

I might spray the side panels and headlight cowl as well, but I'm not sure I was thinking of spraying them white.

Meh, about it. Now just waiting for it to stop pissing it down so I can crack on with it. smile

Pictures will follow as I proceed with it, but it'll probably be a slow process.

Got all the stuff to do it now, all in the weathers hands now.

And I got it for £1100 and it had some problems, there's a thread in the "Top end" section based on this bike. Took forever to find out the exhaust needed repacking, then job done. It does 50MPH top speed though, will look into that.

And the bars are like that because I put them back on in a rush just so I could get it back in the shed as it began to pee it down. smile

Nearly complete now, just awaiting a new gear lever, as my one has broken all the ratchets on the inside are wrecked, from wear, so it won't fit, getting a new one now.

Photos from a few days ago:

Yesterday dads been spraying it for me:

All that's left now is respraying the little bits like the side-stand, and getting the gear lever.

P.S I removed the oil bottle, will I need to bleed the system or anything? Its been sitting with it disconnected for about two weeks.

Yes mate. You will want to bleed the oil system. Do you know how to do it? Its a not a closed system so all it will mean is premix it the. Ride it. It'll bleed itself.

I'm now looking at getting hold of some DTX parts to supermoto it, and getting some new fancy handlebars and grips, as someone's been using the grips as stands on walls etc, so they're all ripped and old.

How much am I looking at for some DTX forks? I'll buy a speed-o drive new from Yamaha. Wheels will be a second hand job though.

Also before I get it back together I'm looking into the Cyclone V2 alarm, hopefully I can connect it up by just wiring it to the negative and positive on the battery.

Thought they didn't fit with the DTX wheels? Or the brake, you have to make mounts or something on them for them to fit?

Hmm, I'll have to look into it first. Currently not got anything to do the conversion. Hmm, if I used the DTR forks, I'd still need the speed-o drive from the DTX?

What forks and wheels are on your SM?

Normal running using good 2t oil  Use 40:1 ratio, that works out at 125ml per 5 litres of petrol theres a link on here somewhere to a program called Ratio Buddy, download that to your desktop.

Missed your post. But yeah, will do it according to the Haynes manual, and look at setting it up properly. I think the settings are all out.

no no no disbelief   there is a bleed screw on the pump u have to have it running then take out the bleed screw until air bubbles stop coming out from it then replace screw, takes a while and its a messy job, jus have a clean container to catch the 2t oil in to re use it and u want the bike stood upright on a paddock stand or home made jobby, not on the side stand coz it will run under the engine and go all over ur freshly painted frame and is hard to catch it as it will drip from loads of places lol even better tilt the bike over to the right if u can (oil pump side) makes it so much easier to catch.

anyway the haynes will tell u what to do and what screw u need to undo. but to make it easier as its bleeding turn the pump opening wheel on top the bit wer the throttle cable attaches to, tht will simulate u pinning the throttle wide open but with out u actually revving the bollocks off it, oil will come out quicker and makes the job quicker, otherwise it will take a while lol and as cal said run it on a bit of premix wen doin this coz hardly any oil at all will be getting to the engine while ur doing this, itll be good to get a clear oil feed pipe from the pump to the inlet mani url be able to see whats actually goin on with the oil that way u can definatly tell it its getting any  and urll see bubbles if any, if ur still getting bubbles in the feed pipe after u bled it open that wheel on top again hold it open till they stop, it will smoke a bit but better to smoke than nothing atall lol

It shouldn't really matter bradders. Its not a closed system. As in one end is open so it bleeds itself. So long as you run it premix it will eventually bleed itself.

How much oil we talking for the premix? Anyone got a measurement for a mixing bottle? I might just run it premix forever and save myself some ball ache...

I'll just get a jerry can of 5 litres, whack in 125ML, then ride it, it'll bleed the oil pump its self if I did that? Or what I still need to mess around bleeding the system? Sounds like a right pain in the backside to do, and putting a container out to catch the 2T oil. :/

Loom was all done wrong. Derp.

316293_123973284475543_160540784_n.jpg

All pulled out and un-tie strapped.

I did it all, I looked at Nev's project, and looked how he did his loom, heh.

Going to look if the parts all fit with the loom like that before I finish assembling.

This bikes really pissing me off. Every time I take a step forward with the work on it, the bike takes two steps back. The throttle cable has been bodged by some 8-bit wanker, with duct tape. So now it needs a new throttle cable.

Might sell up and get a Honda CG, these DT's are absolutely trashed.

Lol, don't get too despondant Boxing, once you've sorted all the bodges, you'll have yourself a cracking bike you'll want to keep for a fair bit, if you'd have seen some of the stuff that the previous muppets had done to the Black bike when I first bought it, you wouldn't think people could be so dumb.

Going to buy a new throttle cable. £16 jobby.

And Honda CG's are bullet proof if you keep the 4T topped up. And they're cheaper to run in general.

The DT will be sorted soon, just fed up with all these set backs, want it back on the road.

Buy OEM throttle cable mate. Don't waste moneh on cheap after market ones. They fray and don't last. You saying people take shortcuts when that there is one too.

If you buy a CG you're a big gay boy.

I'm sorry to say that it's your own fault for not doing your research prior to buying a bike my friend!

It's only minor set backs anyway dude. Easy work!

Yup. But I would have never known about the rev cable being fooked unless I stripped it down before buying, lol.

Anyway its cool, it'll be sorted.

I'll race you on my CG, xoxoxoxo I'll get leathers and blare out YMCA on a ipod, or I might get a ped with a car stereo under the seat to play YMCA, you can sing with me. xoxoxo

I'll write down the name and go to my local bike shop and ask them to order it, can't do it until the weekend though.

agree with oem throttle cable pal...otherwise pattern ones are too long on the oil pump side!! you end up having to bodge it like it i have had to do :p
