after spending stupid money on genuine gaskets to sort out the bike iv only had it on the road for about a week if that and now it's developed another problem.
Really starting to pee me off to say the least.
started it up this morning first or second kick like normal all good etc, ran for about a minute whilst I was shutting up the garage and I gave a little blip off the throttle just to keep her going and it cuts out. And refuses to start. So did all the making sure petrols on and stuff and ye all good just won't start.
took the plug out gave it a good clean off and put it back in and same again fired first kick ran for a bit then gave it a rev and cut out.
Swapped the plug for a new one and just refuses to start entirely. So I put it away I was getting a bit frustrated.
Had a similar problem before where it kept killing plugs so I took it to a mates garage who sorted it all out jetting, needle height and what not and has been fine ever since but now this has started to happen.
Dont wanna chuck any more money into this bike, any one got any ideas ?
Sorry if this is in the wrong category call I didn't know where to put it, also threads in small sub sections tend to get ignored.
Wouldn't give up on it just yet Phil, but I'd have the carb off for a decent clean, and bang a new Iridium plug in it, and a good long count to ten, check the cut off valve in float chamber is good too, sometimes they tend to stick.
Ok will do that tommorow, this is an iridium plug that's only a couple of months old :/
Don't know whether anyone else's is the same, never worried me but every time I start it in the morning and when I head off it smokes like **** (not worried about that typical 2 smoker) but literally just splutters untill it's warmed up, this is probably normal but my yz isn't the same, can be sitting for months but when you fire her up she's dead sharp strait away.
i blew my dt up ... but i fixed it.... Then i crashed it.... but i didnt fix it right and 2 scouser's come in the middle of the night and left me with a working bike
Aye get a carb cleaner aerosol, with a tube/straw, and some stiff wire or even better still mig gun/ burning torch nozzle cleaners for the jets, and go for it mate.

I'll always answer all threads mate. The way i use thks forum is by clicking on your name at the top. This brings you to a 'Recent post' section. Where everything is compiled. So it doesn't matter what section its in.
The inly reason we want it in the relevant section is because it makes it so much easier to find information when looking. I.e. i guarantee you someone has had the same problem and the answer lies in this forum. Probably couldn't find it cause they never bothered posting kn the right section.

Took carb off gave it a good clean out made sure the jets were 100% clear and put it all back together took the spark plug out and cleaned it up put it back in, fired and ran for about 10 seconds then cut out.
hmm do this check list is it getting air ? is it getting fuel ? is it getting a spark ? Is the fuel to air ratio correct ? Is the spark strong enough ? is there compression ?

Alright guys, put a new plug cap on and cleaned the iridium plug up and seems to be problem solved. Thank god as its drained my money already from pervious problem. Cheers for everyone's help.
Isit bush! Always used iridium plugs. Always done the trick for me!
to be fair though even when i bought it it WILL NOT START WITHOUT CHOKE. Iridium or normal. It just will not start. Tap the choke on and first kick it fires up every time. But without choke. Absolutely not.

Well it won't start on the kicker after i've ridden itfor a while. Not unless you stick it in gear move it forward. Then clutch and kick. Or if you cut the engine then straight away kick it.
But just tap the starter for less that a second. And fires up straight away. No choke
i'd admit its better now i've got 240 main jet

If your oiling up plugs on idle with the choke on from cold the plug is already oily and when its cold its just killing the plug and the iridium ones are worse for it. It sounds like you need to go through your low and midrange carb settings.

Strange that is, even after you've ridden it for a while?? Curious
Main jet is nothing whatsoever to due with starting the bike hot or cold, it only affects 3 1/4 to full throttle running. Your starting should not be any different with kick or electric
Its generally your midrange that oils plugs up and thats sorted with needle clip position, in general a DT usually should be set to standard position and should never foul plugs.
On MX bikes never try to cure fouling plugs with your fuel oil mixture, always cure it with your needle clip position and mixture screw. I run a 40 to 1 mix even though 50 to 1 is recommended in my manual. I ran my RM125 at 40 to 1 and my YZ250 with no problems ever, never had a seizure never had fouled plugs " after carb set up "
Sold my Much loved Aprilia. Which was paid for by mummy and daddy lol. Then came home a week later with this dt. First day I got it it took me about 10 mins yo get it started. With mother not impressed at the window. At the time i knew nothing about two strokes. Bikes or the dt. So that was awkward.
