Yamaha YZF R125 anyone know much about them ? restrictions etc
Permalink

Eldest daughters boyfriends just come round with his new bike, a Yam YZF R125, I haven't got any knowledge of them, any of you lads in here familiar with the bike? any restrictions to get around? I'm presuming an aftermarket exhaust is one restriction sorted. Oh aye anyone knowing where to get a workshop manual for one would be great cheers

Most people put on the malossi 182 kit on them and scorpion full exhaust system, good bikes but not worth the money them being a 125

This might be useful, forum specifically for them http://www.yamahar125.com/

As far as i know tho the exhaust is the most restrictive

Love the look of them, whack a 150 on the rear and it will look naughty. as said zaust is restrictive and a lad i was speaking to put a BB on it then had it dyno'd to set up the fueling and he said he got a ton downhill

Also noted it has Brembo braking on it too, useful knowledge for SM conversions.

i reckon there good bikes, for a 4 stroke 125. don't see why people hate on them, great handling bikes, like you said Nevweena they got good brakes, light, reliable, looks proper nice.

People hate on them because they look faster than they are! Personally I like the look of them but I would rather have a cg125 as they look and go slow just like a thumper 125 should.
Best part of a couple of Łk?

I was looking at putting a 140-150 rear on my wheels... 140 ok 150 is not good, the rims are the same width so the 150 tyre pinches too much... U don't get 150 width just a rounder rear wheel making handling poor.... Sorry nath, but the rear spindle is 20mm and the front is 15mm so maybe look at wheels from another bike if u want to widen them

+1 I really do like the look of them. They ought to do a lot more than they do do.

Useful to know the spindles are the same as the DT at 15mm front and 20mm rear, bearings and forks will match up then.

Don't suppose you know the front bearing o/d do you Shaun? if they're 37mm they'll do for my TZR wheels on my Hybrid

Nope sorry mate, used the bearings fitted... Just made slimmer longer rear spindle and dt front spindle with custom spacers for rear, also need custom brake brackets for front and rear. Big job, not fun.... Expensive.... Time consuming.... But I like my wheels so I think it's worth it lol

Ahh, I'm sure I saw a show version with a 160 on it! Mine struggles with the 160 so I can imagine that to be extremely tight! I'm sure a 140 will handle amazing tho as the bikes so light it tips in nicely anyway

Very nice looking. be nicer with fat wheels an a big engine ,, there main downfall for all the hatred is they want to be a sportsbike way to badly ,, an someone forgot to give them an engine,, imagine an old dtr nsr apriila coming up against you smiling then booting off in to the distance ,, cos thats whatll happen. best thing to do is F off the engine stick a 2stroke block in there instead lol

The front brembo wont match the holes on the standard DTR forks or the DTX forks so a custom bracket will be needed to fit

Aye Ralz, am no stranger to those brackets lol, I'm hoping more that the bearings are 37mm, be useful if they are.
