Here are a list of things that will cause overheating. So for peace of mind it would be worth checking to make sure its all ok.
Spark plug fouled Spark plug type incorrect Incorrect ignition timing
Fuel air mixture incorrect Slow speed mixture strength incorrect. Adjust pilot screw. Main jet size wrong Air filter damaged or missing Induction air leaks Fuel tank filler cap air vent obstructed.
Inadequate lubrication
Oil pump setting incorrect Transmissin oil low or incorrect
Radiator fins clogged. On inside and outside. (Common after head gasket failure. Easy clean use some petrol and swirl round with the radiator off the bike. I find that helps a lot.
general advice from Haynes.

its warm weather so its gona read hotter as even the air cooling the rad is warmer and we all know how hot a head and exzust can get come on lieing who as burnt fingers on a head or zaust in the past ? I once had to peel my hand of a jcb exhaust after grabing it to climb on the front for me dinner and yes I cried for days

I just had the bike running in the garden for 15mins and the temp gauge only went up a 3rd of the way up one thing I did check was the spark plug which was black and oiley so I checked the oil pump and the settings are out some how the lock nut on the cable adjuster had undone and its tightened the cable making it run rich I would of thought it would of gone the other way and loosened the cable off ???. Can anyone tell me the correct setting for the oil pump as I,ve misplaced my manual thanks.

I took my bike out for a gentle run after work as the engines just been fully rebuilt and I wanted to to start running it in but I only done 2 miles when I noticed the temp guage was three quarters of the way up so I returned home. I was wondering if this is normal when you first start running an engine as I have only ever ran topends in so I checked the coolant level which was fine and I had bled the oil pump and held it open when first starting the engine I have also checked for airleaks or could it just be case of having a tight engine on a hot humid day and me being paranoid
could be the case of being paranoid along with a hot day and tight engine but also could be anpther reason so best to be paranoid at this point was the water in the rad hot or boiling also ? are you sure the water pump is working ok maybe better ways to see if water is pumping ok I sometimes wilst at home take a water pipe of and see if it pumps water out ok sure some one will have a better way to test .
Have topped up the expansion bottle? Are you using coolant not just water? It's not in the red is it? Wouldn't worry if it's not. I've got a vapor unit on my dt. Runs at 77 degrees normally. Whilst using water i've had it at 103 degrees! No word of a lie. Bike is still crisp as fook. So i'd say paranoia.
With over heating the first thing I would check is the thermostat. Remove it and throw it in boiling water, if it opens you know that's not your problem. if it doesn't open that will be the reason, cause it stops the coolent circulating.

I am using silkolene pro cool in my rad its was not boiling and I run the bike with the rad cap of and it was definatly circulating.

Line up the 0 with the line on the oilhose, if you get me
Also, check that you put your headgasket the right way

I will take it out again this evening and see how it goes.
I took the bike out yesterday and the temp gauage only went past halfway a couple of times but its still running hotter than I would like. Its definatly not running lean as I checked the plug and its a nice light brown colour. I took the rad cap off and run the bike up to temperature and I could only see a little bit of movement in the coolant and it did not improve even when reving the bike I thought the coolant should be circulating around a lot quicker than that like in my old rm 125 and my husky. I,m thinking maybe the thermostat is only opening a little bit restricting the flow of the coolant.
yeah I think you should see movement in the rad coolant ..
I would try to find at what point its not pumping throu or could be blocked by removeing pipes at diffrent points in the coolants path and at each side of the rad . the pump/impelar could be fine but coolant could be getting stoped at some point . try pulling of one hose at a time wilst the bike is running ? see if its pumping water out fine and not just a trickle ?
I think I have found the problem I was just giving the bike a once over and noticed the oil level was too high on the sight glass which was strange as I put 750ml exactly in the engine so i drained some out only to find it was a milky grey colour which leads me to think the water pump seal has failed which seems odd as when I had the engine rebuilt I had all the seals replaced and bearing in mind the rebuilt engine has only done 19 miles how is it possible for a new seal to fail in such a short time.
Those water pump seals can be a right cûnt on the dr. Had a similar problem on my 2001 dtr. To be fair i just ran it anyway. Never broke down because of it. Broke down due to other reasons.
