Carrying Spares

I had my clutch cable snap on me yesterday and I was ten miles from my house I managed to get it home in the end by bump starting it in forth gear which was fun especially at the traffic lights. I think from now on I will be carrying a spare plug and plug spanner a spare clutch cable and possibly a couple of other bits. Does anyone else carry spares with them when out riding if so what else would you recommend having with you thanks.smile

a question why are you bumping it in forth?

u know it bumps in first right and better yet it will still start from the kick start leaver.

iv ridden without a clutch cable or leaver on meany occasions one time 20 miles home after a laneing session you just put it into natural as your stopping push it away and when your moving click it into first match the revs and change gear as you would normally

I had to put in fourth gear to bump it as the rear wheel would just lock up in first, second and third.

It snapped right at the lever I think it was a slinky guide clutch cable so I have gone OEM and got a replacment for £21.

I've had pattern clutch cables before and they've lasted five minutes. Buy cheap buy twice for things like that.

Toy it's £25 for years of peace of mind. Those pattern ones fray and snap. Great crack.

oem or copys they can and do all break some times down to bad sharp edge levers or rubbing at some point even feeding/routeing it wrong can help them snap .

I always used to carry spares sprak plg a tube or puncture kit along with relivant spanners for the job . spare water oil and some times 1 ltr bottle half full of fuel just in case also selection of screwdriver attachments and long nose pliers and hallam keys electrical tape maybe headlamp bulb ...

had a kit of all basic tools and bits always in its own little bag and never left home with out it if if only going couple miles away .

sounds a lot but dont take that muc room up and not heavy to carry but can realy save your ass if you break down . worst thing is breaking down in some scummy area and as you fixing groups of little kiddy chavs start to gather lol once had a qypo kid about 6 years old come up to me saying .. ge of tha bike Im taking it ? wilst his gypo dad sit in pickup staring at me so happy the bike started that day and was soon gone lol .

yeah lol the good old give some chavs the finger as you pass only for the bike to stall 20 ft away  and the panic as you try to get it going again

Can't say I've ever done that. If they stare at me or turn to look at my bike I just give them the death stare. Mind you, I'm not exactly a person going slow enough to see them half the time... biggrin

My main riding areas are country lanes and dual carriageways.

I just have the " ultimate reward account " with my bank. They will pick your sorry ass up as part of the package lol At the touch of a button, You might have to wait an hour and a half like my experience!

Luckily I only stick to the posher parts of edinburgh or as MDK says we would want out there ASAP Wishing I had 15 amp fuse in my wallet (which I do at the very least)

i do think a small tool kit and spares would be good to have in that compartment next to the battery. Think I will make one up come to think of it.

Most "chavs" wouldn't actually jack you or mess you around. As someone who lives in a shit council area, they just ask constantly when you've broke down and walking it "Have you ran out of petrol?"

Had some builders ask me the other day when I was walking it to a mechanic for the rear brake pads to be done if I had just stolen it. Didn't even get a reply, pricks.

Nobody said they don't like poor people.

What i don't like is uneducated fücks who think it's okay to scrounge off rhe state, steal cars, do drugs and generally be a pain in the arse to all those who go out there and pay taxes and obide by the law. I break the odd speeding law granted. and if i hit someone doing 40 in a 30 then i would class myself among them. But i do not go out and purposely fck people over Out of their hard earned cash. Unfortunately chavs has become a word that sums up what i have described.

I've met lots of 'chavey' people. But to know them and realise they are actually hard working people with jobs to pay bills i have retracted that statement. Even if they do cause fights and steal things.

I've had loads of clutch cables snap on me easy enough just a pain in the arse at lights and junctions lol

Had my ktm clutch lever brake the other day, was thinking it's only on 50 hours I refused to change gear without the clutch, had to kangaroo round junctions lmao

who said poor people  with a 2k gold chain top price clothing and a £600 mobile phone wish I was as poor as some chavs .... being a chav has nothing to do with  being poor or where you live its a style and way of life katie price springs to mind and she.s minted  ....
