I'm not saying don't restamp it. I'm saying don't fuss over the fact the powdercoat has removed it. My numbers are very very faint. And thats a few layers of spray paint.
At the end of the day. The frame numbers will be the second thing that goes. It's pointless saying they're must in order for you to get your bike back because that's a load of bollocks. A smart thief will have those numbers off in seconds and then you're back to square one.
Best thing is unique markings that a thief wouldn't think about. As for MOT. Fair enough. But in my opinion frame and engine numbers are about as much use as a wet paper bag. Gone in seconds and not much use to a legit owner.
cal sometime I realy think you talk about things you have not a clue about reg plate can be off in seconds the numbers may have to wait till they get the bike hom or to a safe place with a flat end screw driver and hammer or rock now they are not gona do this on the street or near by so chances are they gots ride it home or some distance from the theft and in that time is a chance of being spotted or cought or stoped . now there is no way to id the bike or prove its stolen they could say yeah its my bike and some numpty copper let them go with a warning not to ride it .... FACT seen it happen with off roaders ....
I come from a sink estate grew up with all manner of people drug dealers -bike theifs- armed robbers and even know the odd murderer and rapist and lets not mention the nonses . the things I could tell you about bike theft and the police alone would take me forever
I know ppl that live in a safe little bubble that actualy think things like cctv are good security or think a chain and ground ancher make a bike safe they live in some majic world with fairys and butterflies .
frame needs numbers no buts no ifs or whats clear and simple and chances are all the dvla will do or say is yes you need them restamping and now you told us you will have to pay some garage to have them done at the cost of £150 and reregister them with us maybe at another cost .
I've had lots of bikes nicked from my house. I know what bike theft is like. I've had road bikes and crossers stolen. Peds to motorbikes.
All i'm saying is that frame numbers are clearly easy to come off. If they can be removed in a paint process then they can be removed by s thief. So i'm not sure how i don't know what i'm talking about.
So you're telling me you notify DVLA so they could charge you through the roof to stamp some numbers. Fair enough each to their own but i know i wouldn't bother.
