Hi mate and welcome. Loads of info on here.

For cleaning the carb I would use a can of carb cleaner and some wire to poke down all the holes ect and a soft tooth brush or something. Some of us use ultra sound cleaners and a guy called scrim of here recommends soaking all the parts in alloy wheel cleaner or brake fluid, can't remember which so defiantly check first!!

if you. Look in the carbs section there is a great sticky guide on setting your carb up, I will be using it soon myself as my bike seems to be running rich with all the spooge running out the end can. But I don't know if that is just oil from my rebuild though cause the bike seems to run nice.

Keep the forks. Also check the filters inside the tank, if there blocked u won't get any fuel.

+1 to this if no fule is getting to carb then the tap is at fault easy to remove and clean ... is the fuel running out the pipe with out the carb attached ?

as for cleaning the carb loads of advice on here dont use anything abrasive no scratching or sanding ect .. good old toothbrush and petrol cleans ok use a straw or bit of pip blow with your mouth down each and every hole you should feel or hear air comeing out in another place if not its blocked many ways to clean I use strands of the wire from a old mtb break cables .

Easy enough to check if the filters are block, put some petrol in and turn the petrol on with the hose from the carb off, if the petrol leaks out the filters aren't blocked. ;)

Also might want to start applying some anti-rust stuff to the frame, before it gets too far gone and has holes in the frame. Mine was like that, pulled it all back to bare metal and sprayed it black again then applied some tape all over to stop it scratching from the seat and tank etc.
