if you think some one has been sniffing around then chances are they have be on a good look out not just over night but for good . they may have been testing what security you do have and how loud it is and could be ready for the next time they visit with right tools .
steal moms cotton thread run lose lines across areas they may enter about waist hight . if its broken you know some one has been round .
i never run out tbh i will look throw the peep hole and wait.
they send someone or throw something at it and watch to see if you come out if you dont they may attempt to grab it and then ill be out there with my 3 and a half foot crow bar
They'll be back. Only a matter of time now, they'll probably wait a week or two so you least expect it, then boom bikes gone. You realize just how easy it is to get rid of a bike alarm, right? I can disable mine with my eyes shut and remove it completely in five seconds flat. If I was a thief and it wasn't my bike, make it two seconds, I wouldn't be unbolting the plastics or seat, just rip them off, easy enough.
And for hotwiring it, well... Put it at this, four leads and the engine is running... Or just barrel it and get it running.

my security has always bee way over the top brick shed - steel bar jail type door - then solid wood door behind that each have many locks - once past the doors some good chains with ground anchors and locks along with some hidden extras that make all kinds of sounds even home made buzzer by the side of my bed .
heres a very simple diy alarm you could make this also with any bike 12v battery and horn
I like the idea ken dog off here had. Get one of those 140 db rape alarms of eBay and attach it to the roof or something with some fishing line tied round the pin and hooked onto the door but have it so you can get your hand in to unhook it ect. I would love to see their faces with that in your ear at 2am.
Me and reefy found the best alarm ever a while back! I never got round to getting one but think he did, basically all it was, was a blank firing weapon thing! You'd use 12-24 gauge blank rounds from a shotgun then have a piece of string tied the firing mechanism then when the line is pull broke etc there would be a pin that would be release which would make the firing pin hit the round causing it to go BANG! In theory you would have a chance to get down to your bike while the thieving little s,crotes are still froze solid with crap running down their leg!

The clothes peg and fishing line is a great early warning. Enough time to run out the house still naked with a samurai sword, if only we lived in America I think that would be allowed lol.
are those blank firing things legal as long as its on your property?
Probably not in the UK, but the rape alert trap is a very good idea, I'd wire up a few though if I was to do it, one on my back gate, one on my shed door, one on my bike in the shed. If the thieves get my bike, they'd be deaf within the time. :D
Wonder if it's possible to switch the alarm siren with one of them rape things? Or a louder one? :D

Decent combo and a good saving/price too. And I know If you use the code MC55 your save about £4 too
(If your gonna go with a chain and lock option tho, keep the chain off the floor as best as ya can and also try finding a place to pass it through the frame rather than the wheel and then secure it to something else good like a ground anchor for example..)

at one stage i had one of these in a sandwitch bag with some tape next to my battery the only downsides the batterys dont last the longest and sometimes i would turn it on in my pocket and end up rideing down the road with the alarm going off
Almax chains ive got two 6' 20mm thick ones round my trailer with abloy 362 locks on,only way cutting thems with disc cutter and there bit loud outsgide the house lol

the chains and locks or only as good as what they are chained to . if you get what I mean . seen the best chains and locks ever passed throu wheels or parts of a bikes frame and when stolen the frame is cut or the wheel left behind seen people chain bikes to a carvan or even a trailer that in most cases helps the theifs they use what its chained on to as the way of towing the bike away then theres the good old chain to a wooden fence or washing line pole now that makes me lol everytime.
