Slob's Asgard motorcycle garage project

Wasn't to sure where to post this, maybe a security section might be an idea, anyways thought I would start my write up seeing I have kept myself busy in preperation of this garage actually turning up sometime soon.

Some people will remember my old thread when I first purchased the garage and I said I would do a write up review of what I thought seeing that it aint the cheapest thing but hopefully it is money well invested by keeping my bike in my possesion!

This is the site the garage will be placed, my own private driveway just up from my house on the end of my block, it is very nicely hidden from passing traffic.

This is how it stood, I was limited with my options here which were.

Get planning permission and get a garage built which would have been thousands, but would also of been an amazing workshop and a good investment I would get money back on ( the choice I regret not making but would have skinned me alive)

Buy some flimsy trash from Argos/homebase I could of kicked down the door of even when I was about seven  years old, or at the very least blow down in a gale and crush my bike lol.

Or buy the Asgard motorcycle shed which is the option I went for.

After I ordered the thing they told me it would be 5 weeks till I received the damn thing, wasn't happy as that meant keeping the bike for the remainder of the summer at my parents house. Just last week it dawned on me that it would be arriving soon and I better get my finger out and get the foundation sorted for this thing, you can't have a heavy £1k shed sitting on un even chips and slabs so I set about constructing the foundation base.

Asgard Recommend a 100mm concrete base, I have made it 200mm deep because I want to get some nice deep ground anchors installed inside.

Damp proof membrane installed.

The concrete suppliers will only supply 1m3 of concrete which was fortunate because my foundation was 1m3 bang on, happy days! did cost £174 though, but there was no way I was mixing with a mixer, probaly would have been dearer anyway.

All barrowed in and raked smooth,

All screed smooth, with no one to help hold the board at the other side, got it in the end though.

How it stands at the moment.

I have made a good observation doing this job. I have one of the nosiest naboughrs I have ever seen directly across looking up my drive, some old guy who is retired and must just look out the window all day lol! good extra security having a watch dog lol.

I also have nosey, very nosey neighbours. One of them the whole family pretty much just sits window twitching all day. Bikes still got nicked from my shed. They're the type of neighbours to ring the police on you when you beat a burglar up though...

looking good but must say remove the pics of your street they are not needed and if I lived in your town or city would know your street instantly kinda like the guys that have videos on youtube and finish a ride out by filming their ride home on to the drive . so many bikes have been stolen that way .

still thats a nice base for any shed . I did the same but then build a concrete block shed on top for 1/2 the price of any bought steel or wood shed . started as a bike shed but then became a summer house with full glass front and doors and is now my own gym lol .

Yeah I will delete the pics of photobucket. Just wanted people to see the situation cause i know people said they will see the shed ect but every one passes at about 40 just looking at the road. It took the concrete man three instructions to relise there was a drive even there.

Yeah I did think after I done the slab that I could have built the thing myself. I suppose with the asgard the security is in the five point locking door.

The instructions were not bad, the people who delivered it laid it out in order for me which was good of them, They charge £240 to build it for you LOL.

What fun I had putting this up by myself... not. Definatly a two man job espeacially the roof. The only bit I accepted defeat were the doors, they are far to heavy to hold by your self and get the hinges bolted on so I got my mate round.

The whole thing is held together with thousands of self tapping screws in alternate rows, it was like riviting a ship together on the clyde dock yard.

Where each pannel meets a good bead of silicone is used before you use the self tappers, couldn't beleive how perfectly the holes lined up on the whole thing a sign of a good quality product.

The doors are really impressive, they are really heavy duty weigh a ton, and the locking mechanisim is very solid.

The ventilation is good also, even during the winter condensation has been nearly no existant appart frow when it has been really heavy rain

How it stood yesterday.

On the whole I am really happy with it, pricey by all means but the piece of mind is worth it and compared to other crap sheds the price isn't bad at all, it also has a good shelf for helmets ect which I use for tools and oil and stuff, theres also plenty room for all my tools and spares.

Nice work. We had a 9 x 12 wooden shed from tescos a couple of years ago. Not bad for the price of about 700-800 quid. We've had to re brace the middle as it started to sag but does the job. Concrete based it too. Got 1 DT, 1 Wr200, 1 rd350, 3-4 cycles and still room. I looked at metal but was worried about the condesation. sounds like its actually ok. I sometimes put cheapo disposable dehumidifiers in mine. Takes a load of moisture out.

I'd think it might need something on the roof to dampen the sound of a heavy down pour or hail, be like a machine gun going off. plus adding a couple of hasps for padlocks wouldn't go amiss too.

Thanks for the replys. Yeah could add some hasps and padlocks could add four lol with big massive padlocks lol!

I really think it is the perfect defence against chavvy scum armed with a set of croppers and a screwdriver for a reasonable price, lets face it they are enemy number 1 when it comes to keeping a DT in your ownership. They soon move on to another target cause they are normally lazy and stupid, and they are used to having stuff handed to them like benefit money ect.

If someone managed to get in some how I would soon know about it, The doors fit so seemlessly there is no where to get anything like a crowbar or pick axe in to get leaverage ect.

Going to look at some hasps for extra protection, will need some good drill bits though lol.
