HI , i have got a question about starter motor on a 07 dt125re ? when i took the old starter off ,there was a rubber washer between the starter motor and the crank casing (mounting point) , but when checking the new parts out i have noticed that it is listed as a "metal flat washer" ? so i am asking does anyone know what i should use ? this bike has never been apart until i got it ! so it must have been done in the factory ? i have ordered the new metal flat washer and i will use it unless someone on here knows better ?
I think the reason for the starter motor failing was that water had been getting in and had shagged the bearing ! ? so this might have been becuase of the washer ?
I just dont want to spend anymore money on it in a few years time due to a suspect washer ?
The rubber washer is fine that's what mines has. Is it defiantly water do you think. The starter motor can be overhauld it shows you how in the Haynes manual rather than buying a whole new unit.
I have already ordered a new starter , but the one i took off was knackered ! the small shaft bearing had nearly seized ,and the plastic brush holder thingy ,was in 3 bits ! so i will keep the old one for spares and may be re-con it another time ?
But i am still not sure about this washer thing ? what should i use the original rubber washer or the new washer plate that comes with the new starter ? which is what is in the parts manual ?
I think i should use the metal washer ,but if anyone else knows /,just let me know , i will be putting back together next week ?
Also what the the green wire do in the speedo ? the one that people say to cut and earth it ? any info would be appreciated ? the bike is VERY slow in standard set up (15 bhp ) !! ? but if i do the green wire earth trick will the motor just blow up ?
Lol. Slow 15 bhp? Mate that's good. It's a restricted 125. What are you expecting?
There is lots of info about the derestrictions in the detrstriction section.
But basically the green/black wire retards the powervalve at a certain rpm which consequently slows your acceleration. Its a noticeable difference but nothing to rave about.
It will not affect your motor serverly since this is how yamaha intended for the machine to be run. But emisions and various have said otherwise.
It will cause increased wear to the engine but that's life. You don't get something for nothing. The increase in wear is negligable. All i'm saying is more power = more strain = more maintenance. It's as simple as that.
Like said yamaha intended for the machine to run without restrictions.
