So the DT seized on me on Saturday, loads of metal fallen down into the engine so a complete rebuild is needed...
I rely on the bike to get me to college etc so picked up this beastie to get me about while the DT is in bits
Despite it's limp wrist looks, it's a surprisingly nice bike to ride haha
While the DT is off the road I figured I may aswell tart it up, starting to look a little tired now so gonna powder coat everything and treat it to some sumo rims
To be fair 11k is 1k over periodic replacement but it would have done plenty of more miles. I suspect oil pump failure. If it was piston wear you would have had piston slap and the weakest part of the piston would have cracked. The weakest part being the skirt. But the skirt is fine. So it leads me to believe that there is an underlying problem.
The athena kit is poo btw. If i haven't told uou already.
Never had a scooter before so I have no expectations but I must admit, I'm impressed by the elyseo, it's not a bad little machine
Oil pump could've pack up, I'll have a look into that...
What's so bad about the Athena kit Cal? Surely more cc's mean more horsies?
It's not as simple as that. Two strokes although simple are higgly complex machines.
I've ran the athena kit on my old dt. Whilst you gain more torque it's just worse everywhere else. Restrained on over rev. Not great peak hp. A ported athena kit might be interesting. But a ported 125 kit would be better.
It comes down to things like if you increase cc's then the bottom end needs rebalancing to compensate. Throws things out of balance. Requires fine tuning. Bigger carbs. Better air intake. But just doing those things to a 125 will see nice gains. So it just comes down to a waste of money. I'm not the only one to have bought it and felt disappointed. Although i may be the only one to admit it. £400 is a lot of money for something to not be very good.
you cant wack a 180 kit and leave it you have to put a bigger carb and that
mostly when i play with the big bore its on peds if you stick a 172 kid on a runner it will be better but not by much so you swap the carb out to a 25 or even better a 28mm change the reeds to carbon reeds stick a pod onit then jet it to suit. then its lightend flyweel and so on.
for the dt when i get around to geting a 180 kit im looing at a 32mm carb rework the air boot for the airbox and cut the top of the airbox off and fit mesh over it. that should see it runing good with a 180 kit
I had done lot done toy. By me i mean my brother. To not lie about it it it was my brothers dt. He's been on here before. He had a 38mm yz carb. Air intake done. 170cc athena. All derestrictions done. Don't get me wrong it was quick. But it wasn't what one would expect from investing £500 into it.
On the other hand have the 125 ported for less. And car for less and have a better overall bike. To be fair hes the one with the rs 160cc polini and says how for the money it's not as fun as the original 125.
