help/questions over BIG ONE EXHAUST PLZ!

Got my Big One Exhaust from ezegreenfingers today and fitted it.. Took the bike to work with me and OMG!!!! It's sluggish.. Takes forever to get into the band and once in it you have to change gear!! I've struggled to get 60mph out of my bike and it wont hold at 50mph at 8.5RPM it just drops out of the band in 4th. forcing me to change down to 3rd when I should be doing 50mph.. Can someone give me some answers as I've never known a DT to be so sluggish with a performance. My old pipe would hit over 60mph. :::::(((((((((((

Eze is a genuine bloke and good one too. But i'm sorry you should have done your research. It's a well known fact that those big one expansions are just shocking. A good expansion pipe will make all the difference.

Oh yeah of course the guys helped me out in selling a pipe I'm in need of.. nothing to do with his selling or my buying I'm just shocked at the performance the pipe has ended up giving me.. Dep are £££ but that's not to say I wont me getting one! but hoping this will get me through my MOT. I'm just shocked, my last pipe wasn't a dep.. and I've no clue what it is.. I'l take a pic tomorrow and see what you guys say.. plus I'll spray the BigOne up and put on ebay and see if I can get about £70 for it and then put the rest of the money to a dep! I know this sound like wrong to the other person buying it and to the person who sold me the pipe but moneys tight at the mo with xmass spending and having a little 6month old 16year old an Mrs, house bills to please all.. Sorry if I offended anyone who reads this.

Yeah. They really are that bad. I've had no experience but we get a few people with them wondering why their bikes are slow thinking its because of damaged rings or something.

Just get it through the mot and switch nack to your other exhaust and save for a standard or futted dep.

He's not saying he's unhappy with the sale mate. He's just saying he can't believe how rubbish they are. I will stand by you on this one rest assure mate. You offered pipes for sale, I'm sorry but it's the buyers responsibility to check that they are good. You didn't ram it down anyones throat.

yeah like I said.. It's no ones fault the standard ungutted would be just the same and I don't have the tools to cut the standard one and weld it back up. so I thought the big one would be the better choice. I'm pleased with the overall sale and like I said I didn't mean to offend anyone by it.. but I did ask what one was better out of the 2 pipes but didn't really get top answer so for quickness I opted for the big one. But yes I'm happy with the sale and very thankful that the guy sold me one on the cheap. But MOT tomorrow and it should be all go..

It's a bit rude for me to just interject in there though when a friend is selling something just to cut him up and go nah they're a bag of shít. A quick search on this very site would have told you that. I'm sorry but I've known Eze longer which is why I didn't want to say anything

well if i had of seen it i would have said... everyone else is quick enough to jump on other peoples for sale items etc!!

but the guy hasnt complained about the seller only that the item is crap....he wanted an opinion and thats what this forum is all about..not keeping quiet cos its a mate! and your answer doesnt help things either!

also yes i know he could have done a bit more digging about and he would have found other threads slating the exhaust, but then as a mod -perhaps you could have directed him to them or perhaps the right section for him to make an informed decision?? we all make mistakes and hes probably learnt a valuable lesson but it could have been avoided?

oh well? if i see it next time i will help out and "advise" accordingly :p

Pfft as a mod i'm to move threads that are in the wrong section and thats about it. Everything else is because i'm a dedicated member. I didn't know where exactly it says the big one isn't very good and i am far to busy at the moment to go lookong for it. As for seeing the thread i remember eze putting jt up for sale but didn't interest me so i left. Hence why i didn't bother slating it.

You've gotta learn to help yourself if you expect others to follow suit.

well then me and you got different ideas about a moderator...times obviously change- been moderating on forums for well over 15yrs and it certainly wasnt just to move threads! oh well them are your words mate...if thats all you want to do then so be it.. i feel that people look at Mods for guidance and the rest..

Wow.. I didn't think it would come to this lol... I was just wondering is that's how these exhausts preform? or if there is something else I needed to do for the bike to preform like it was before I changed over exhausts.. but hey guys, lets not fight over a think such as this. It's hardly worth it. On a good note the bike passed the MOT so very pleased. ::)))))
I hope I've not put anyone off selling or buying stuff because that's the last thing I wanted.
I do agree with post from dread123 about if someone asks for help then mods should be more helpful with information, point being, you become a mod for a site because you want to help the site anyway you can there for you'd put in the time on the site helping people a little less clued up and move threads around that are posted in the wrong place. But can understand that we are all busy with our own life's and can't sit on here all day waiting for problems to arise. Just my opinion.

I'm literally sitting my exams for Uni so don't have time to scroll through pages to point things out. Like said it's all here. Just typing in Big one in the search I'm sure you'd find a review so don't blame me for you not looking.

He isn't blaming you...you already stated your job is purely to move threads only...maybe time for new mod if your struggling with time? No shame in asking for help is there?

What I'm saying is that mods can and should be more helpful...than just moving threads and saying use the search .... Please don't take this as a personal attack mate..this is just my observation of how forums are moving on! People have less time for others

Is your bike derestricted? The big one is bad but not as bad as yours. mine worked fine in all gears apart from 6th it moves the power to high in the rev range and in 6th you just cant get it in to the band. Would do 75 in 5th gear though so somthin dont seem right with your bike. Is your powervalve covered in carbon? Engine worn out? You could maybe try a smaller front / bigger rear sprocket to encourage the engine to rev up better but never tryed that with mine so not sure if it would help

To 1down5up. Engine had a full rebuild about 2 years ago, everything is Yamaha in the engine. I think I've got 14/13 on the front and 52 on the back. I'd take a vid if I could. Unsure about jets though. Power valve is pinned so bottom end it poor, feels like a courser bike lol.. no air snorkel under the seat.

Hhmm. Could be poor setup then.

Really you want to sort the powervalve out.

Then you want standard or close to standard gearing. 16/57 i think. Unless you're 520 pitch.

Carb wants to be 240 main jet.

Some carbon reeds and the snorkel put back it would give you better power.

A bit of an old thread but for future interest...

They're not as bad as everyone makes out, I would presume people have never tried one if they think 60mph is what you get. Mine goes off the clock but you do have to be at top revs moving from 5th to 6th to stay at top speed, miss it and you'll bog down to 60mph. Just learn to ride the exhaust, as soon as it bogs - drop it down to 5th again and then straight back in to 6th and youre off again - its no biggie. Its only the top gear thats affected and its happens less once the bike is warmed up for some reason.

I'd say youve not done the other restrictions or something else - dont believe all this ****e about Big Ones being crap.
