Do we still need the ypvs earth wire with these cdi's callum iv just got mine not sure if il get chance to fit it tonight tho
No. You'll have to be a little careful mate. Disconnect the earth and isolate it. You don't want that derestriction anymore. It shouldn't have any power going through it it should be a redundant cable. But best to be doubly sure.
Ffs louis you jammy git lol! How long you recon 1-2 weeks for it to arrive? And you better do some reviews on it man :P Cause i'll be getting mine soon too.
Yep I will, think I need a new battery and put a inline fuse for the cdi, as it runs off the battery, my need an separate. on / off switch so the battery won't drain ;)
Just been out for a quick blast with the zeeltronic and im pleased to say it does make a difference. I didnt really open it up but it sounds rapid. Cant wait untill the roads stop getting gritted so i can get my DEP back on.
Spent about two hours programming it right. It was a few thousand degrees out for every parameter. I'm surprised it ran at all.
Anyway it's all done now went up the road on it. NO DIFFERENT! Revs a little less restricted but that's about all the gains I received. The power delivery is smoother which in my opinion is worse.
I've sent a message to Borut to see where i'm going wrong and will get a GoPro up with the new ignition. But you will see that there is no difference.
have you sorted the exhaust and everything else? no point doing all this if still got those probs pal...get a video posted- very interested to see hw you all get on with this. you'll get there in end pal
If i was you cal ad try and get a refund their a load of rubish the germans and yanks have had them for ages for the 125 and the wr200 and most have resold them they make no difference At all and are only good for the 200cc project thats on here
I reckon it's a jetting issue here. Needs carb set up and then I reckon it'll go better.
I dunno mate. It's a lovely bit of kit the handheld programmer really makes it easy to change things on the fly. It revs more but the delivery is just not there. It's a bit harsh to slate them like that mate. I'm on the aprilia forum and they highly rate them. Say they make a huge difference. And i know for fact that the RE ignition is just shocking.
I won't be touching the bike today mate. But if the weather is nice tonorrow i'll take it out for a blast down similar roads so you can compare them.
am just saying what iv seen m8 but i do hope you get it sorted but the dtre cdi cant be that bad alot of people say when their derestricted their just like the old 90s dt's and they are very revy mine now revs to 12k with out any struggle and is very revy doesnt hold back at all. You could try and set it like the 1988 dtr cdi if you could find out its settings
Not at all mate. I've had an older dtr and it's cdi was so much better than the dtre. The ignition on the re is so retarded in the higher revs.
And if I were to set my dt up any different why on earth would I choose a road bike to base it on. Surely base the map on a race bike. Like oh I don't know maybe a tz250 or a yz125. Not a dt.
I know you're trying to help but I've had a rariety of bikes including DT's and i'm telling uou the mapping is crap on the RE.
Iv only had the old dts never the re so i dnt no what their like but theirs 1 thing i can tell you is that it will cost alot of money to get it to rev like a yz125. Lightened fly wheel bigger carb 34 - 36mm carb a lot of port work engine blue printed new manifold some thing like a yz 1 V force reeds. It can be done av seen it but u need deep pockets. And the relabilty of engine is gone Best bet would be sack the dtre engine all together and buy a yz250 engine and ad a lighting kit. job done
Well the mapping of a racer engine wont work at all you will be wasteing your time their a total different bread of engine only thing thats Gona happen is it what happened in ur video only way to get that engine to rev freely would be buy a old dt125 loom and cdi or try and set that the same as the older 1 but u said u dnt wana do that so i carnt see any other way of doing that with out work to the engine. even the wr 200 and the dt200r done rev as good as the dtr 125
But I won't be running an RE engine. It'll be running that TZR engine.
Plus the DTRE engine is the same as the DTR engine. The only thing holding it back was the ignition.
To be honest there are 5 maps that Borut sent me and I'm judging the ignition on one of those five maps.
When I get home I'm going to put on the other map settings and give it a go. The setting I'm using retards the igniton after 10'000 RPM so I'm just going to change that. Regardless of what you say the only thing wrong with the DTRE was the poor build quality and the restrictions. I've removed all of those restrictions. In other respects the RE is a better bike. And by looks that's just personal preference.
