You'd be lucky if that's all it needs.

How'd it happen? Do you know why? That's over the exhaust port area where there will be a lack of cooling and oil.

It looks a little dry but not lack of oil. Almost piston slap but then i'd expect to see the skirt breaking not the piston top.

Let us know what happened.

did seem to be rattelin a lot recently , thought it was piston slap myself and has been smokin a fair bit esp on warm up .
Think i got most of broken piston + theres something rattlin in my dep chamber maybe rest of piston top .
Engine rotates ok on conrod n no vertical play so hopefully no btm end stripdown as thats beyond me n not many tools to do it .
any suggestions as to where to get a rebore n piston asim in derbyshire .. thanks Doo

Bottom end rebuild is piece of cake. Only need fly wheel puller for £6 and clutch holding tool £10. Is all i needed.

It will only need a bottom end rebuild if that chunk of metal went into the bottom end. When you fire the engine back up it'll destroy the bearings, seals and bore if not removed. But it could have just gone straight out of the exhaust port.

The remainder of the piston has defo flown out of the exhaust.

Fúcking nasty that is mate.

Defo looks like the cause of piston slap, and if you said you heard a rattle, then that confirms it.

Don't you have a local motorbike shop/dealer? Isn't it usually the norm to contact them? Usually they deal with speciallised engineers who do their rebores for customers etc.

Then you can contact them directly once you get their info from your local shop.

just been lookin at piston n where the ring should meet there shud be a pin n its not there n ring ends wen it seized where in line wiv exhaust port instead of at abt 9 o clock lookin from front of piston where it should be .
Also piston seized at top of bore so thats where i found 90% of piston peices n as i say theres something in my dep ratteling
No damage to pv or head n no signs of any other damage .
When it seized it made a loud click abt 3 times then tried to spit me off at 60 on bypass

Well what happened was rear wheel shot out to the right as at same time i was nearly spat over the bars , but luckily i always ride with my hand on clutch lever so soon as i whipped in the clutch she straightened up ! good bloody job realy as i was in middle lane wiv traffic on both side..
Wasnt as bad as having to push the piece of scrap home , uphill for a mile n half :( nearly killed me as im nearly 50 lol

The same thing happened to me but on an AM6. The rings folded on the exhaust port because that's the hottest part of the barrel (and she was pinned!) biggrin. The inlet has a slight amount of cooling from the fresh fuel but the exhaust is just red hot exhaust. Next time this happens make sure when you remove the barrel to stuff some rags underneath so that none of the piston falls in the bottom end. DSC00989.JPG

PS. I also had a spanny full of piston wink

"gonna upload a pic of barrel for the gurus to whince at ! well maybe"

I'm guessing it took a chunk out of the exhaust port?
