Powervalve is fine. It's only used to alter exhaust port height. Personally i would wet and dry it down get it smooth and polished up since you don't want to disrupt exhaust gases on their way out.
Carb cleaner or an ultrasonic machine or elbox grease. Something like that will sort it out nicely.
