Fuel + Spark But No Go :(
Permalink

My mate dumped his dt at mine after walking for 3 hours with it so I'm trying to look into it fixing it.

We were riding no problem, ended up stopping for a bit then when he started it he then stalled or it cut out not too sure. Then it would turn but not fire up.

I've stripped it down as I was assuming there wasn't enough fuel getting through and swapped the carb for one that I know 100% works.

The spark plug is now wet with petrol and there is a strong spark (by the looks of it)

Compression seems ok but I haven't tested it.

Kind of lost for ideas as it all seems ok to be honest - any advice appreciated I know it's a boring subject!

would check for any air leaks or breaks in the runners ect once you eliminate what is ok then look for other things that could be wrong .

so you have good spark .

you have fuel .

you have sompression.

last thing in my mined would be to as above search for possible air leaks incorrect air/fuel mixture will cause none runner .

A old TZR I had did the same realy stumped for a while and turned out to be air leak round the power valve . used some silcone sealant smeared round the are just to test and hay presto .

but could also be other reasons hard tp tell with out seeing the bike .

you tried another spark plug ? it could be a great spark when out of bike but maybe week once . try to start it in the dark with plug tight in the bikewith some one looking close at spark plug to see if you can see any spark or blueflash around the base of the plug .

or do as my dad did to me as a kid say to some one here hold this for me a second then kick the bike over -if they call you names you know its a good spark lol

I have inspected all the rubbers as I stripped it down and didn't find any splits or loose bits

I tested another spark plug too so eliminated that completely and the fuel is fine it makes no sense to me to be honest

I haven't looked at the reeds - kind of reluctant as it isn't my bike so don't want to start ripping it apart much further

Will have a look at the powervalve cheers - what is weird is it hasn't started and bogged at all just ran fine then not at all
