just to confirm, have you changed the piston? the rings supplied with a a piston are normally matched. ? cant be btothered to read all through lol

if you have changed piston and the rings are supplied with the kit, then just ignore the old rings/piston

What piston kit did you get? That ring on the right doesnt look like a rik ring which is what comes with mitaka kits which is the lowest quality you want to use.

they are not RIK rings thats correct. but..

depnds on which mitaka kit you go for...forged kits get the RIK rings- the cast piston kit gets the ones above...i have both types of piston kits purchased. the forged kit thats installed on my dt at present was RIK. my spare barrel not used is cast and has same rings as poster above.

wouldnt have paid £48 though. go directly to the importer which is Grampian motors in Liv4rpool- lot cheaper in future :p

Mitaka dont do forged 2 stroke pistons as far as i am aware. They do forged 4 stroke pistons but all their 2 stroke pistons are cast. They must be TP rings which are just as good so nothing to worry about there. make sure you oil everything during assembly. follow a guide to the letter!

my bad.. what i meant was they do 2 types - taiwan or jap -they are different quality- the jap kit is similar in quality to forged item -the other is cheap cast kit :p

Just ensure the gasket mating surfaces are completely clean and dry when fitting gaskets. Don't grease anything, just use 2 stroke oil to liberally oil the piston, rings, small end bearing, drip it down onto the crank, wipe it around the bore ( which must be clean prior to this). Be careful when sliding the barrel onto the piston that the rings dont get stuck in any ports and dont twist the barrel as its going down. You might want to get another pair of clean hands to help you put the barrel on when the time comes. When you install the piston circlips, make sure the gaps are faceing up or down and not to one side. They can ping out as the piston goes up and down. When your installing them make sure the crank is packing with clean rag so you dont drop anything into the crank cases. its not fun getting them out.

Try and use the proper names or its complicated to understand.

Expander ring ( the thing curvy ring) goes in the bottom rind groove. Then a piston ring over the top of that. then the othe ring goes in the top groove. Both rings will have a gap and that sits over the peg in the ring groove to prevent the ring turning onces in the bore.

Reply comments without them takes ages yet we all do it.

I do 90% of my forum browsing on my iPhone and upping photos is a piece of cake. Probably quicker than if i had to switch my computer on. In fact it is quicker.

I find it faster than the computer. Cause i've gotta turn that on. Plug it in. Download the photos off. Upload them to PB. Post em here. But there it's literally just up them and then post.
