Hi, have you tried a new plug? 2 strokes are known for eating up plugs

yeh its a brand new spark plug, iv also checked the resistance in the coil and its fine but im still suspect...

Have you always had this problem? If not i doubt it'll be a problem with the air/fuel mixture screw settings. Have you running it without the air box? As you say the idle screw has no effect It might be worth stripping down the carb and checking the idle jet for blockage.

As Robski said check the idle jet, once you get running your using pilot + main jets and another i think

If it was me i'd get it set up at a garage as im useless with carbs, they seem to break when i touch them anyway.

hey guys, yes iv always had this prob since buying the bike a month ago just can seem to get it solved... iv got the haynes with a exploded view but my understanding of bike carbs is pretty basic, my email is scott101smith@aol.com, my mate has a dt which im trying to borrow the carb off to try at the moment, iv stripped and cleaned everything so far but to no avale.cheers

Scottie, if you've got the idle screw fully in it should be idling its nuts off! Try it without the air box on. Sound to me either the idle jet is blocked or the carb is flooding on idle....any signs of drips on the floor when its running?

Also what colour is the electrode end of the spark plug after its been running a while? its should be a biscuity colour

hey robski thanks for all the info and help.. i managed to get it to idle after about 1 hour.. i put in a fresh mix of petrol and removed the carb and blew through all the jets and passages with a mini air compressor, rest float height and cleaned out fuel bowl, put it back on bike and hey presto with a bit of tinkering i managed to get it spot on... it now starts first kick and idles sweetly, and more noticable to me was how smooth it accelerate from a standing start

Ah thats good news mate! It only takes a single grain of sand to foul things up. Glad it wasnt an electrical problem as they are a bitch to solve

lol i was ruleing out the eletrics as its just had a new cdi fitted and when i was looking for that non start fault i checked ever eletric component and all where in tolarance

so now bike is running so sweet i love it

I was helping a mate fix a TTR600. There was no spark what so ever. Every thing was as the book said. 12 months on we've still not solved it and its had all electrical components changed (coil, stator,cdi) even wired up a temp loom. Iv heard of other people on the net having a similar problem but yamaha dont seem to be interested
