Hi 1st post maybe a daft question. As the title states I want a unique helmet and thinking A idea may be to spray it and add my own graphics. Is this possible or not.

Cheers

Definitely, definitely NOT!!!, paint has chemicals in it that will break down the polycarbons in your helmet.

it can all depend on what the lid is made from and what sprays you are planning on using as said above it will eat and weaken some lids .
maybe do some searching on the net and find out what materials are safe to spray and with what types of spray .

+1 on this, its not worth the risk, you never know when you will have to rely on your lid being as structural strong as possible, so never mess with it and treat it right.

Another thing that not many people realise with helmets is they only are supposed to be used for 4/5 years and then you're meant to chuck them, apparently ultra violet rays make them brittle, a fact any angler knows happens to monofil line too.

It's not the ultra rays. It's the fact that the helmet internals is just polystyrene. That hardens and renders the helmet pointless.

No it is californication, trust me, we had a day course back when I was rallying, you want to spend half a day talking about bleeding helmets, when all you want to do is get on the track.

lol I remember why I changed my last lid.... the internal foam fell to pieces and kept going in my eyes causing me to not see where I was going... i think its a factory design to force you to buy a new one becz its too old...

truth is the visor cracks, the foam falls to bits the UV hardens the shell and internals, and after to many accidental falls off chairs the polystyrene is bashed to bits... thats my take on it...

Hairy muff. Well learn something new everyday

doesn't explain why helmets that have been in storage for years shouldn't be used. Since they're sheltered from the UV rays.

Quick google reveals lot's of places that do custom work on helmets

for racing and such, and pretty expensive around the 500 mark

so im sure they know what there doing.

edit: surley it would be fine stored correctly? i mean they can sit on shop shelfs

for a few years?
