Servo for Yamaha DT 125 RE - do they break?

Hi there, got my dt in bits cos I am trying to workk out the weather or not the servo works. The wiring loom is a total mess but pretty much everything is connected up as it should be. I understand that when you turn the key in the ignition, the YPVS does a cleaning cycle. Mine doesn't do that at all. Im now left to believe that the ypvs servo isn't working at all. Do these things brake so easily? I am mean the bike is only 8 years old!

Fuse? flat battery? try horn and indicators see if they work, that narrows it down a bit.

Okay, thanks the battery is bad but good enough to get the indicators to work. Where abouts is the fuse box on these bikes, thanks! :)

No fuse box as such, it's an inline fuse straight out from the positive connection on the battery.  If indicators work then fuse is good.

The YPVS won't work properly on dead batteries.

Also do they break easily? In what context. If the bikes in bits and wiring loom is a mess then somebody could have damaged it. If its left on the bike and never touched then no. They last a good while. But everything in the end will break.

Check all conections to and from the servo motor are properly connected and also pull them out and check pins for corrosion.

Okay thanks @JesseDT. Btw I'm GPKphotography from instagram! ;) haha! I have just removed all of the old connectors and replaces with brand new bullets. I think the servo motor has gone. Which I will say is surprising but hey ho.

5 wire servo's are both much cheaper and easier to come by than the 3 wired ones

Is there any benefit to having one over the other NEV?

Yes Jesse, the 3 wire one won't work on yours mate, as it has 2 wires less

Yes they do indeed break, not very common like.

My old servo packed up, the teeth of the plastic cogs sheared and whilst hitting the power band it would fluctuate like crazy and just not ride properly or go into the band.

Good 'ol Yammy charge 350 quid for a new'un, yeah right, got mine for £25.

Okay all good news! The servo is in good working condition! :D I have been testing it with a multi metre and a 12v 4a battery and its in good working order! The 5 wires that run to it are also good! The issue now lies with the power source. I am currently charging my super flat battery in the hopes that this will sort the issue out. If not I don't know where to go! I have been re-wiring the bike today as the wires were chopped and changed and extremely messy! I am slightly suspicious as the cables for the pulley housing were extremely tight. Could this have caused the YPVS not to work? They're so tight that one of them is badly frayed and will need to be replaced before I get the bike running again! Cheers, T.J

The powervavle just won't turn with a flat battery, get a new one.

First sign of a weak battery is you can hear your powervavle doing the cleaning cycle slower and slower till it stops
