Why are DT's so expensive? :O

Hi all, since when have early 2000 dtr's been worth 2k plus? I don't understand why people are asking so much for them these days! What I want to know is why are they as expensive as they are and for those of us who own them does this mean that they're going to go up in value? I can understand why some are super expensive as the parts for them aren't cheap, I bought mine for 1500 and its needed about 1000 on top of it to get it running, gutted! Any way if anyones got any light to throw on this, much appreciated cos it baffles me! :(

you kind answerd your own question lol .

prices are gona keep going up as each year go.s by this much loved nike is becoming more and more a classic and with each year there maybe even less around with bikes being broken up - stolen or destroyed .

as a buyer its not so good but as a seller its awsome .

other factors are its a great looking bike even along side new bikes also its a 2 smoker the list can go on why they are becoming more sought after meaning more and more want then that alone will bump up prices .

to say mine stands me at around £500 2-3 years ago but now could be worth 1500+ is a great bonus that said I think my 1 owner 1989 all original dtr should have a greater value than most ,

haha lol yeah just read it back haha I guess so! The bad bit though is that some of the bikes that do wash up are utter shizzle! They're not even worth 1750 which appears to be a very common asking price. Thats awesome! I'd love a really old school dt. I've got an 8 year old one, one of the last made! Thats gonna be great so if I hang on to the dt for a couple of years I could safely ask 2k plus on the basis that we have a few thefts and a few dismantlers! haha love it! :)

its common now for  many people when selling / buting  instantly go to ebay for a price range and loads  price something on the best priced bike they see regardless of condition or year .

that said there are one or two on ebay and they are clean awsome bikes [also in another topic somewhere ]  a white one that is priced at 2k+ but has been on there for ages unsold  just cus some are asking these prices dont mean they will ever sell for that ...

gumtree-preloved-vivstreet ect ect  is realy a better place to find bargains and realisticly priced bikes .

I got my 2003 dtr fully restricted with 4500 mile on it for £1850. There are some good low mileage dtr's around for sensible money its just a case of having good look aroundsmile

oh okay! Yeah I can understand why a bike with low mileage might be worth more! I saw one about three weeks ago that wasn't even complete and that also had about 23,400 on it! :( Not worth it btw it was £1900 I think!

The true value of these bikes is often found when they come to insure them, try telling an insurance company that your bike is worth £2500, when their book price says £1500 say, they will ask for pictures, receipts, and will often then send an assessor to value it, that's why there is Agreed Value Policies.

3500 miles on my dtre £1400. Bargain!

But I'd say its got to do with the dact they don't make these bikes anymore. Neither do they make two strokes. Then add the fact that they don't make a learner legal four stroke that even comes close to be as good as a dtr.

Some people are stupid enough to pay top dollar for them, some even more stupid people will pay top dollar for scrap...... Thats why.

I think that also Yamaha will never make a two stroke Dirt Trails bike that is road legal that is anything as good to a DTR or DTR(E) again. These bikes have been good from the start right up until 2007. Its a  shame but I guess these bikes are now starting to become collectors items. Give it a few years and these will be worth 500 maybe 600 more than what we paid for them! :)

Yeah I'll openly admit that my bike was not worth £1500 at the time. It was not even close. I have a thread at the moment in the project section on it. Its starting to gain value now, it has loads of new parts and its gone back to stock rather than modified!

I would only pay 2k for a mint bike with under 1k miles

people are dreamers if you ask me, can build a new looking dt for 1k

Try about £1700, £2000 if you want SM as well as Enduro, at the minute I'm up to  £3k with about £400 to go on the Red hybrid, all documented too.

I've been trying to convince the missus the bikes are our pension fund, and when our pension age is just over 12 years I reckon I need a few more adding to these too.

Picked up my 89" dtr for 250 quid in 2007 i think, was a pile of **** at the time tho. Iv got a bunch of recipts for 1200 for parts from yam dealer plus all the bits i picked up from ebay n other places. N that was on the first rebuild.. its stripped down again now for rebuild number 2 n iv spent about 6-700 quid on parts.. and its still a pile of **** sitting in the mother inlaws garage and still nower near got all the parts to finish it..at least another 5-600 quid to go lol. Thts wat happens wen u go mental with the custom modding of parts from other bikes! 0_o
It will be finished one day. Oh and ill never sell it as no ****er will wanna pay wat id ask for it if i ever did lol
