Anyone know what this is?

Hi,

been taking the carb apart and think I found the problem with the main jet being 240. However I haven't got a full DEP so I'm going to replace it with either a 210 or 220 main jet. The other problem I've had is im not sure if there is supposed to be something in this hole as there wasn't when I took it off, and if there is what does it do? Anybody know?

Thanks

From 97 onwards they were 240 as standard. dont downjet unless you are sure and even then best to do it in steps.

Don't think theres anything supposed to be in there. Think it would be for the balaance pipe if used on a twin.

That hole is just a blank, part of the design to have the air screw on the other side if need be I think.

What symptoms is the bike having. Personally I don't think having a 240 without a DEP would cause major running problems, especially if it was running fine before?

Ah yeah good shout, idle adjustment though rather than air.

From the look of your photo your bike is a 99/2000 model and 240 is definitly standard main jet on there. check aj suttons diagrams

That's the one, I have looked at it before and that's all I could think it was for.

It must have been built into the design for use just in case, maybe if it was to be used they would drill it out in the factory and blank of the other side that we use on the DT ones.

Thanks for that i'll keep the jet standard then. The problem i'm having is it's running extremely rich! tickover with the choke on is about 2k, then without the choke is around 3.5k. I rode the bike like that for a few months and i did get better. However recently i was riding and the bike completely lost all power. Got home changed the plug and it was fine for about a week then the same thing happened again. The spark plug was extremely black and covered in crap. However if it take it out clean it up and put it back in it'll run for a minute or so then the same thing will happen. Stripped down the carb and cleaned it all out, all the jets and clear and overall it's pretty clean.

Could be you're oil pump settings arent right and its fouling the plug. Also check your air screw settings. I'd set all the settings to their factory settings then start from there.

instead of changing the main jet

raise the clip on your needle, you'll get similar effects to a down jet but at least you'll have a better idea of what the problem is
