Yamaha DT125RE - Front Fork Help
Permalink

Hi all. I don't want to come across as a know it all but if anyone is planning on dismantling their Yamaha DT125RE forks anytime soon, come to me. I won't be dismantling them but I am more than happy to assist in the search for parts. It would appear that the photos in the Haynes book and on the AJSutton website are both wrong as Yamaha appear to have constructed the DTRE forks from early TZR parts and DTR parts along with updating the forks casing. When it came round to looking for replacement parts, I found it really difficult as I learnt that the photos on the website and in the book are completely wrong. So after 20 mins of research I'd found 3 of the 4 parts I needed for about £100, no word of a lie. After this I was kinda thinking, this ain't worth is so decided to do further research. Cleverly AJ Sutton don't put dimensions of any of their parts, probably to prevent people from custom making their own and potentially putting AJ Sutton out of business. Eventually I managed to find all of the bits that I needed and the best bit of the lot is that I managed to save about £70, which to me is pretty darn decent. All I need to do is reduce the size of the bushes by 0.5mm and thats it, pretty much everything else is "bolt on", not literally. My project DTRE is coming on slowly, as you've probably guess I have the forks off and in pieces and I also have given up on working out what is wrong with the YPVS. The motor has been tested and works, the battery is good so I'm assuming the issue is between the battery and CDI. CDI's are pretty darn expensive, even for a second hand one so I'm gonna get the bike legal and then come back to it at a later stage. Peace, T.J

P.S I might have posted this in the wrong place but I reckon I'm appealing to a larger number of people so in the general is probably better! :P

P.P.S I also think this will generate a talk topic about DTR and TZR forks!

Yes and no. If somebody is looking for something sbout forks they are not going to be looking in the general chat section about forks.

But yes you caught my attention. Best thing you could possibly do is spend 30 minutes carefuly explaining what you did how you done it with photos and posting that in the forks section. Then message me and if its helpful I can sticky it where it forever wil remain at the top for everyone to see. That would be more useful than having to message you in a years time about how to do it when chances are you've forgotten :(
