When I first got the bike on the road it runs fine until it gets up to temp and stalls unless you tickle the throttle to stop the stall. If it dies the only way to get it going again is to put the choke on which made me think it was crank seals coursing it to run lean. So I have changed the rusty bubbling cranks seal and if you had seen them you would have thought that was the problem, but it isn't.
I finally took my test on Wednesday and had to tell the examiner I was having a few issues with the bike that day and he said that was fine, I tried to start the bike at the test center and it wouldn't run. Brilliant start to my test I thought so I told him to hang on and give me a minute to get it going, it sparked into life with the choke on as pre new crank seals. It failed again while doing my emergence stop push the bike around for a bit part of the test failing to start again. Then choke and it sparked up.
So what has been suggested by 3 different people is it is either there is crap in the carb that is hidden from view or it could be the stator plate. A lad bought a bike off a mate of mine and it had similar problems as mine and new crank seals were fitted but didn't fix the problem so him and his old man eventually found the stator plate was at fault.
Has anyone got any ideas what I should be doing to test the stator?
Usually mate what tends to happen is if the crank shaft seals go then so do a lot of other things. Especially if they've been gone a long time and continue to be ridden.
It could be worn engine due to the crank shaft seals going. But assume for now it's not and work on the easier tasks such as cleaning the carb and ensuring correct setup.
Engine has just over 5k on it ,you can see the honing marks on the barrel still, crank is good where the seals go. I have ordered myself a flywheel removal tool so I can try the stator as I have 3 spare engines to get them off so there should be a good one and I'll have a look at the carb again.
Apparently there are a few hidden areas in the carb, I thought about buying an ultrasonic cleaner but I'm not too sure yet.
