Oh, just wait until you start riding it and getting attached. "That bit of rust on the frame looks horrible!" next minute the bike is stripped down and the grinder with a wire brush attachment is out and before you know it you're doing a full rebuild. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Usually the older models that suffer from the rust around the back end of the frame. Front is more protected from the elements. In my case anyway.

And I bought a £80 ASV clutch lever, only to find out it doesn't fit my perch! cry Sat under my bed now collecting dust. Don't know how it ended up under my bed, but it can stay there until I get a bigger bike it'll fit. smile

Na dont understand how people can buy all this useless sh**, now why would you want to spend that on a lever? Im guessing its unbreakable, but you would never drop the bike enough to make use of the price you paid for that rather than replacing the standard one

Ok it might make it look better but £80!? I wont even buy one for my kxf and i race it every weekend

If you don't want to brake your levers there's no need for flash bendy ones just nip the perch up just enough so it don't move but loose enough so it will if you give it a wack.

1.

My original 04 plate RE I bought in 2007 for £2095 with 183km on the clock. Only money I spent on it was a set of tyres as far as i can remember. Sold it 5 years later with about 8k on the clocks for £1900.

2&3.

I also bought a "02" DTR and an 86 LC in offroad condition with the lc in boxes for £365 off ebay. Me and a friend had intended to build them up and use them at the local motocross track ( having since ridden there im glad we didnt). I spent a fair bit on parts for the lc and never got it running ( electrical issues). I did a top end rebuild on the 02 and rode it a few times up and down outside my parents house and it felt extremely powerful. It had no V5 or documents but engine and frame numbers were in place. I advertised it on ebay as offroad only and someone paid £600 with the intention of putting it on the road. It was bright yellow with purple/blue bits.

The LC sat for a while and eventually I decided to cut my losses and stuck it up on ebay. I think it went for £500 in the end. It had had a top end rebuild and had loads of spares including a frame. It had V5, numberplate etc but was still in a bit of a state. I think since then it went to someone on here who lives near me but cant remember who.

3.

A couple of years ago I bought a 98 DTR from ebay for £250. It had the new keepers slip of the V5 and numbers intact. I ended up doing alot of work on it and then riding it from Worthing>Lands End>John o groats>Worthing. I think I spent about £800 on it. That was the first Dt i had ridden since i moved up to my rd350 after passing my test and it was a joy to ride, even on that long journey. I sold it on ebay for £1500 and if I wish I hadnt but it allowed my to buy the TZR ive got now and a few other things.

Theres a few i can remember off the top of my head.

Paying for a name with those ASV levers I swear.

The way I see it, it's a fashion statement. Nothing less, nothing more.

I am the last person to go out and buy a nice watch, clothes, shoes, glasses whatever. I wouldn't spend much on cloths. Most of my clothes come from discount retailers. I don't drink, smoke or go out partying.

But I will go and spend silly money on personal items. Items I get satisfaction out of. I've had those levers for just under a month and i've already had people comment on how nice they are. Oh they're real asv's. That to me, makes it all worth it. We're all different, where you may have to have designer clothes I would rather Alpinestar jackets, boots etc. Top of the range bits for my bike.

I know it's a waste of money to you guys, but to me drinking alcohol, smoking and pissing my money on a night out is a waste of money. As said I get a lot of enjoyment out of my items :D

Cheers me up at least.

Yeah I know that scrin. That's good advice. I didn't mean to direct it at anyone, especially you. Just thought I'd share my logic.

To be honest  if I didn't obsess about the bike it'll be some other useless artifact. That or I'd be a hell of a lot rich lmao!

I wouldn't even buy an alpinestar jacket just because they're abit pricey lol but na i see what your saying mate, i just physically cant do it, and if i did i would feel ill

But if you enjoy it by all means spend away, thats why we earn money right? To spend on stuff you enjoy

well if it makes you feel good cal, im already eyeing up my bling bits :)

Thinking a different handle bar, its got rethal ones but i hate the colour, plus maybe a new dep pipe or one of those custom jobs from that guy on the forum!

In all fairness most of the money i have spent has been on tools and such.

The real question is, how much can you spend on your bike without your girl leaving you lol.

I'm the same, bought some really expensive jackets back when I was on bigger bike's.

But I do tend to splash out on clothes a lot, even though I never wear most hmm

I can only speak for myself, my bikes tend to be my pride and joy so money doesn't seem like a big deal.

Envy how is that custom Pipe?

Yeah I'm not the world's biggest fan of the dep pipe. I'm nearly there with my underslung. Not long now.

You decided to stick with the underslung in the end then cal? Take it easy on those corners, especially round abouts

You should do a review on it after you've got it up and running though mate! Power increase and all

confuseYou got ASV front and clutch levers? How did you make them fit? Custom perch? I can't fit mine on the standard perch. (Only clutch lever) cry

I only bought the brake lever at £80! because I've got Aprilia RSV4 front master cylinder.

It's unlikely that i'll be able to fit a ASV clutch lever because my clutch lever has a switch to disengage the neutral switch for when using the starter motor

I might buy the perch from my local Yamaha shop as they have one on display with the perch. Might sell me the perch. :D
