Date certificate - anyone done it?

Got an unregistered frame on the way from Seb (HPI checked by yodi) . Spoken to Yamaha who will provide a date cert but they want a pic of the frame and an engine number!

This is what i got back from them-

Hi Marc

If the engine number didn't match that on our records as having been the original, we can still produce a letter, but it would point out that the engine and chassis had different origins. We would date both and leave it to the DVLA to decide which they wanted to use.

I dont have an engine complete so am stuffed at the moment but has anyone managed to actually register a frame and get a date reg before on here?

Anyone got an old bottom end going or cases i could use    hmm?

They want the original engine numbers.

The ones they made the bike with. So even if you got a new engine with fresh numbers, they still couldn't assist you as you do not have the engine it had off the production line.

They said that if the numbers don't match as original then they will still produce a letter stating the engine and frame do not match. The DVLA would then decide which date to use...

It's all there in writing mate

Engines blow all the time. And the only viable thing to do is to change the engine. Happens all the time. My dad put a 1.8 air cooled engine instead of the 1.6 it had originaly in his 1960 split screen vw, imported from paraguay, almost impossible to have the original engine numbers and yet he was able to get that road legal no problems. Just had to drive it to an inspection centre.

You'll be fine.

not something I have ever done and tbh never needed to as frames with v5 or registerd frames are always around or poping up ..

I can see that after a lot of hours messing around and money spent this could end up costing the price of buying a legal frame with papers if not a scrapper legal bike lol

think I posted this in the other topics but ..

you could buy something likem this and if not needed sell on all the parts and keep the frame -v5 and maybe make a profit along the way

Got a reply from Paul (DVLA dating officer) over on the yamahadtclub forum -

All you need to do is build it, get MOT and a dating certificate and fill out form v55/5 and that will get you a age related number plate.

FANTASTIC ! (hopefully :) )
